MIAMI (AP) — Haiti's prime minister has reached a settlement in his defamation case against a Haitian-American journalist.

Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe and South Florida businessman Patrice Baker originally sued Leo Joseph in September 2012 over his reporting in the New York-based Haiti-Observateur. They claimed Joseph knew his reporting about the Haitian government's acquisition of a telecommunications company included false and defamatory statements about Lamothe and Baker.

According to an order signed Monday by U.S. Magistrate Judge John O'Sullivan, a settlement has been reached in the case. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Messages left Tuesday morning for the attorneys representing Joseph, Lamothe and Baker were not immediately returned.

The telecommunications company, Haitel, shut down last year after it couldn't pay its debts. Haiti's government then acquired the company.
