LOS ANGELES (AP) — A paroled rapist who vanished after allegedly cutting off his ankle monitor has been booked on suspicion of threatening the family of his 80-year-old victim.
San Bernardino County authorities say Dennis McKenzie was booked on suspicion of making criminal threats. He was arrested Wednesday in Palm Springs and remained jailed without bail Thursday.
McKenzie was convicted of raping the woman and sentenced to prison in 2006. He was paroled three years ago and sent to a state hospital.
Authorities say the 58-year-old was living in a Long Beach halfway house when he ditched his tracking device and disappeared Oct. 1.
Authorities claim McKenzie then made more than 50 threatening and obscene calls to the home of the victim's family in the San Bernardino Mountains.
