METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Mark Ingram insists he has never paid attention to his critics and isn't using their comments for motivation now.
The New Orleans running back heads into this Sunday's matchup against San Francisco's highly regarded defense with confidence following his career-best 145-yard performance against Dallas last weekend.
Ingram's best game by far as a pro came a week after ex-Saints player Chris Ivory made New Orleans pay for trading him to the New York Jets, causing many in the Big Easy to question whether the wrong running back was sent packing.
But Ingram says those comments had nothing to do with the emotion he showed after several big runs against the Cowboys.
Ingram says his motivation comes from within, and that the only opinions which matter to him are those within the Saints' organization.
