PORT CLINTON, Ohio (AP) — An overflow crowd has turned out for a funeral Mass for an Ohio boy whose city put up lights and sang carols to fulfill his wish for an early Christmas.
The crowd at a Port Clinton church spilled over into an adjacent gymnasium Friday to bid farewell to 13-year-old Devin Kohlman. Devin, who had brain cancer, died Monday.
He returned home after doctors said he didn't have long to live, and his community got to work fulfilling Devin's wish of being home for his favorite holiday. The city put up a Christmas tree, and Santa showed up on a motorcycle. Shaved ice mimicked drifting snow outside Devin's window.
Neighbors and strangers praised the boy and his town in messages in an online guestbook.
Port Clinton is about midway between Toledo and Cleveland.
