MOSCOW (AP) — The ousted head of the Bolshoi Theater is testifying in the trial of a ballet dancer accused of masterminding an acid attack on the ballet's artistic director.
Sergei Filin lost most of the sight in one eye and 20 percent in the other when an assailant threw acid in his face as he returned home on Jan. 17.
Prosecutors say that ballet dancer Pavel Dmitrichenko colluded with ex-convict Yuri Zarutsky, who is accused of carrying out the attack. Dmitrichenko has pleaded not guilty.
Bolshoi head Anatoly Iksanov was ousted after the attack, which had exposed intrigue and infighting within the celebrated Moscow theater.
When he walked into the Moscow courtroom on Wednesday, Iksanov smiled and said hello to Dmitrichenko, who smiled back from the defendants' cage.
