WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Leading New Zealand rider Jock Paget is facing a ban from equestrian competition after the horse on which he won the Badminton and Burghley trials tested positive for a banned sedative.

Equestrian Sport New Zealand says it had been informed by the sport's international governing body, the FEI, that a B-sample taken from the horse Clifton Promise on Sept. 8 after the Burghley competition had tested positive for the sedative reserpine.

The 29-year-old Paget, a bronze medalist at the 2012 London Olympics, has been suspended from competition since tests last month on the A-sample showed irregularities.

Paget has three weeks to prepare a case against suspension, which must be presented to an FEI tribunal.
