PHOENIX (AP) — A two-alarm fire involving storage areas for metals and compressed gases is sending a tall plume of smoke over west-central Phoenix and snarling traffic on interstate highways.

Phoenix Fire Department officials say the fire is considered a hazardous materials incident, but there are no immediate reports of any injuries.

The cause of the fire late Thursday morning isn't immediately known.

Phoenix Fire dispatched more than 50 engines and other units to the blaze which authorities say involves at least one structure.

Television footage shows fire ladder crews spraying water onto storage facilities behind several structures.

The fire is near the junction of Interstates 10 and 17, which are the main freeways to get to Los Angeles and Flagstaff from downtown Phoenix.

The westbound ramp from I-10 to I-17 is closed.
