WASHINGTON (AP) — Relatives of some of the 30 U.S. troops killed when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan in 2011 say a congressional hearing has answered some questions — but not all — about the deadliest single incident of the war.

A Defense Department official told a House committee that a black box recorder was not found in the wreckage because the device was not standard equipment on the Chinook helicopter.

Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary Garry Reid also tried to dispel allegations of an insider attack. He said the Afghan forces working with the Americans on the mission were properly checked out.

Doug Hamburger's son, Patrick, was among the Americans killed. The father says that among the unanswered questions is why investigators did not interview any Afghan officials.
