MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) — The jury has gone home after about two hours of deliberations in the case of a Detroit-area man charged with killing four women who met him through online escort ads.

James Brown is charged with first-degree murder and other crimes. He's accused of killing the women in pairs, just days apart, in his Sterling Heights basement in 2011.

The jury in Macomb County will return Friday.

In closing arguments, assistant prosecutor Therese Tobin says Brown killed the women "because he got some thrill out of it."

They likely were asphyxiated, although a precise cause of death is unknown.

Defense attorney Jeff Cojocar repeatedly made that point to jurors. He says no one really knows what happened in Brown's basement.

But Cojocar concedes that Brown dumped the bodies in Detroit.
