Children brought into the U.S. illegally are guaranteed the right to a K-12 education under the 1982 Supreme Court decision Plyler v. Doe. In 2011 and again Thursday, the Obama administration issued guidance reminding schools, districts and states of their legal obligations from the ruling. The Education Department said it has received complaints and is investigating 14 different schools or districts.
