If so many parents see the truth in my joke, something needs to be done. Surely, we can figure out a better way to excite students about STEM fields.
So what do we Gen Y Scientistas really want? We want people to stop telling us that we aren't innately interested in science. We want to be able to form study groups in our male dominated classes without being left out. We want to be able to do research not in isolation.
The more I looked the more I began to notice problems facing higher education - and the more I felt a growing need to do something about it. Below, I've identified what I believe are three big problems facing higher education today and three possible solutions to fix them.
In the past week, we have identified four mentor-mentee pairs who each represent a different STEM concentration to kick-off our program. We'll not only explore their specific topics of interest, but also what role education plays in the development of female STEM leaders, and what good mentors should know about aiding the next generation. Here are the topics we'll be exploring and the people with whom we will explore them.
