Chairman, Tata Trusts

In our current societies, wealth creation is the major measure of success. Corporates and individuals often bask in the spotlight of their achievements.

There is considerably less importance attributed to what a corporate or individual might achieve in terms of 'making a difference' to individuals and communities through the creation of sustainable livelihoods and prosperity. This is what inclusive capitalism is about; it is capitalism that also
commits itself to enhancing the quality of life of the millions of less fortunate people on the planet.

Corporates and individuals, when establishing their enterprises, could easily display greater sensitivity and recognition regarding the geographic areas in which they are located. For example, they could help to establish small enterprises as part of supply chains and they could assist with business development more generally by promoting skills and capabilities that create opportunities and add value to both individuals and communities.

In short, the boundaries of responsibility should always extend beyond the boundaries of one's own enterprise to include the wider community and a goal of enhancing the quality of life.
