What are they thinking now? Here's another stupid and very wrong decision from the top that brings pain. The authorities are telling people who have lost everything or close to it, that they must CHOOSE between their animal and a piece of luggage. This is not only immoral, it is illegal!

Of course there is limited room on a helicopter, but you cannot tell anyone, let alone a sleep-deprived, penniless, worn down, sometimes bereaved person, that this is a decision they must make, especially if other people who don't love that dog or cat or bird are yelling, "Take dad's ashes, take the babies' clothes, take your jewelry."

Things may or not be able to be replaced, but they don't go out of their minds with panic, starve to death and die of dehyration if you leave them there in the vacated building. That's why there's a law on the books, punishable by a $1,000 fine and six months in prison per animal if you willfully abandon an animal. Aren't they are as frightened, hungry, thirsty and desperate as other living beings? Even a person who failed Biology 101 can answer that.

Is anyone in Washington listening or, god forbid, thinking?
