“The Future of Yesterday”
May 2013
Book publication

The Future of Yesterday features a visual history of 50 international fairs in 100 photographs, dating back to the first fair in London in 1851 and ending with the Shanghai World Expo in 2010. This photographic investigation took place between 2008 and 2012 and is extensively described in essays by Elena Filipovic, Catherine L. Futter and Anna Jackson. The image on the cover was for me the most confronting site I have seen. It is the USSR pavilion that in 1937 stood in Paris across from the German Nazi Pavilion. This pavilion has been entirely rebuilt in 2011.
