Gov. Schwarzenegger: Make Voting "Spicy"

This video is published on Why Tuesday? as well as OffTheBus.

SIMI VALLEY, CALIFORNIA -- Just had a moment (literally) to catch up with the Governor of this fine state at the CNN/Los Angeles Times/Politico debate here. His prescription for increasing voter participation? Watch the video.

What are the presidential candidates' positions on increasing voter participation? Check out the Why Tuesday? Candidate Challenge. Three of the candidates at the debate here have responded: Governor Huckabee, Senator McCain and Congressman Paul. Governor Romney? Not so much.

Why Tuesday? is an effort to make America's democracy stronger through increased voter participation; we work to make election reform an issue that our politicians cannot afford to avoid. Read more campaign coverage from OffTheBus by clicking here.

If you want to increase voter participation, make the pay raises for elected officials part of the ballot. Forbid elected officials from voting or setting their pay increases and have them voted on every presidential cycle. Also, using Tom Griswalds' idea, make election day the day after taxes are due.

There is actually a very simple way to drastically increase voter participation. It came to me while watching republicans and democrats debate tax refunds. Quite simply, at your polling place, where they normally just have your signature recorded, they hold as well a check for a minor amount ($20, maybe $50) that they give you when you go vote. They only hand the check to you when you sign in to go vote at your local polling place.

Spicy elections! That's just what this country needs.

This February 5th: Go-go dancers! Lazer light shows at voting stations! Free booze in the voting booths! And strippers doing exit pole-ing! Come dressed in a costume, vote twice! Prizes, prizes, prizes!

Seriously? I think I'll just not vote until reason makes a comeback.

I cracked up. All I could think of was that South Park episode with Cartman pretending his hand is Jennifer Lopez, and doing a horrible stereotype of a mexican accent... "OOOhhh... Make it spicy! Spicier!!! SPICIERRRRRR!!!!"

Forget "spicey" - hold election day on Sunday (give NFL teams all a bye that day). And put voting sites right on the campuses of universities.

The return of sanity to the Republican Party is refreshing. John McCain went into the homes of the abused conservatives and has rescued them from the torture of Rush Limbaugh.
