Saxby Chambliss: Destroyer of Veterans

To their credit, the DNC brought the Fighting Democrats closer to the mainstream of the party this week -- offering these veterans who are running for Congress the additional support and resources they will need. This group of candidates now has an even better chance than ever to move from the front lines to the halls of Congress as some have put it.

Of course, the Republicans couldn't just stand by as a group of veterans has the audacity to stand up and run as Democrats. But the person they sent out as their attack dog brings new meaning to the word irony.

Saxby Chambliss.

Here's his quote -- file this under "stuff you just can't make up" -- "Being tough on national security requires a lot more than election-year political posturing," said Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga.

Saxby Chambliss. The same chickenhawk who, in what some might call "true election-year political posturing" but I just call disgusting, won his Senate seat by attacking Max Cleland as weak on national security.

Saxby Chambliss: the man who skipped out on Vietnam but thought it a was a good idea to viciously and unconsciously attack a decorated war hero. Republican leaders must think old Saxby did a pretty neat job in destroying Max -- let's let him wreck a few more good men and women who have served our country. Practice makes perfect, is that right Saxby?

You know what the difference between my America and the America that Republicans like Saxby live in? In my America, Max Cleland gets to roll up in his wheelchair and sit anywhere he damm well wants.

In Saxby's, veterans like Max, and John Kerry and every one of the Fighting Democrats who served their country once and now want to serve again, they're just people you knife in the back.

I'd like to change that.
