Should I Just Start Lying On National TV?

I was reminded of a simple fact of life and it's quite disconcerting when you're facing it live on national TV: Republicans lie.

I've been fortunate as I have started doing more and more television appearances as a "Democratic Strategist" and "Huffington Post Contributor." Yesterday, I was on Fox News' The Live Desk With Martha McCallum where four guests are invited to sit around and debate the issues of the day. Of course, yesterday, it was issue and it was all Libby verdict for the half hour.

I was reminded of a simple fact of life and it's quite disconcerting when you're facing it live on national TV.

I'll stand by that. They don't twist or re-phrase, they just lie and I spend an increasing amount of time just trying to puncture the lies - not easy when my segments on MSNBC run less than three minutes.

Republicans lie.

Yesterday, Rich Lowry said that Joe Wilson was a partisan hack who had been completed discredited. The best I could come up with was:

"That's absolute crap."

I went on and explained that Ambassador Joe Wilson got the ambassador part from a Republican President and that in fact, what happened was in his New York Times op-ed, Joe told the truth. Which was the event that precipitated the leak, and the trial and the result: GUILTY on four out of five charges.

From Fox, I went over to MSNBC where I was stunned to hear that the best thing about the verdict was that the White House was innocent. I interrupted Contessa Brewer, the host, to rebut.

"Brad, you must have misheard the verdict, it was GUILTY."

I was informed that despite being the Vice President's Chief of Staff, Scooter's guilty verdict meant the White House was clear. 24 hours later, I'm still baffled.

Then I heard "Joe Wilson has been totally discredited."

Here we go again, this time I ended with,

"And Joe Wilson told the truth and it has been the standard operating procedure for this administration to smear and attack those that tell the truth."

"Joe Wilson has been discredited, his wife sent him to Africa."

I had to interrupt Contessa again.
