President Bush is expected to tell the nation tonight that "America is addicted to oil." The truth is George W. Bush is addicted to the nearlty $2.6 million his re-election campaign chest received from the oil and gas industry in 2004.

Bush will deride American dependence on foreign crude oil as the cause of the nation's woes. The fact is that it is the American oil industry cartel that has profited wildly in the wake of Katrina off artificially pumped-up pump prices and the campaign cash that protects it.

Exxon Mobil announced annual revenue from 2005 that's greater than the entire domestic product of Saudia Arabia and profits larger than any corporation ever reported. Then Exxon's CEO and every other major oil company head refused to testify at tomorrow's hearing of the US Senate Judiciary Committee on the state of anti-trust violations in the oil industry.

Bush isn't seeking energy independence in his proclamations tonight. He's seeking to divert attention from the American oil industry's recent outrageous fortunes and the Washington establishment that protects and defends it at all costs.
