Lay Off the Gray

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Give me a f-ing break.

The cover of the New York Times has an article about the fact that President Obama's hair has started to turn gray! Are we really so deluded, see many of my past posts, that we are focusing even one inch of a column of this venerable institution, the New York Times as well as every other outlet, Huffpost included, on the president's hair color? Gray happens ( see below, the first stop on the Googlepedia, a children's health website called Kidshealth. Might want to bookmark and read it). I know that gray happens. I stopped trying to change the course of my hair color/heredity years ago and have been trying to focus on changing the things I can, personal relationships, my health, my heart, my mind, my carbon footprint and yes, in this quicksand economy, my spending habits. The president has been handed the most difficult set of circumstances in perhaps our nation's history and we are talking about his hair. Hair? Who cares?

Dip your hand into the hat and pull up another slip of paper.

Education
Health Care
Environment
Drugs
Addiction
Diabetes
Crime
Elder care

Pick one and read/write about it. There are heroes everywhere and villains a plenty to fill our newsprint. There are stories that will make us all shift our consciousness like only great writing can and yet we focus on the mundane, banal, trivial.

Look in the mirror. You are the root of the problem ( excuse the pun).

Focus, people.

Don't slide down the gray scale. Resist the dark ( probably dyed ) side.

Come into the light.

OK, SImply because I adore ♡ you much JLC, I got sucked in to this fun "Grey/Gray matters" distraction. ;)

Personally, I started to see grey/gray when all three of my children became teens two years ago.
Because I consider my "man style" a bit déshabillé, I'm keeping it real and PROUD because I feel it shows dignity of my single fatherhood. ;)
Meanwhile...Obama on Leno last night...He looks just fine with a bit o' Grey/Gray.

Additionally, I "LUV" a secure woman who let's her inner beauty "SHINE"... grey/gray hair adds a defining "SPICE" to the leopardess.

OK...I'm moving right along now...onward. ;) (peace) ☮

I say lighten up, JLC! (No pun intended). Jamie Lee, I'm almost exactly your age, and am a huge admirer for your championing of growing old authentically and gracefully, and empowering women "of a certain age" to look beyond the superficial to embrace a healthy lifestyle, rather than seeking the illusion of youth and wellness at the plastic surgeon/hairdresser etc.

But I see the media's interest with the POTUS's pigmentally challenged locks as merely a small and much needed diversion from the daily onslaught of seemingly inescapable doom and gloom (even thought it's said doom and gloom that are the supposed culprits here). Yes, the world faces grave and important issues that must be addressed - but we all need a breather from the tough stuff every now and then - and sometimes there is solace to be found in the superficial.

Exactly. I am your age. I have lost my job, half of my savings. I campaigned, I volunteer and am care giver for a parent with Alzheimer's.

We need a breather some time. And while I haven't kept up with the "grey hair" stories, I don't need to be told I'm not in the light if I read something off topic.

It's always more than a little bit annoying to see the stupid things that get blasted all over as big and important news. But that's they way it is, and unfortunately, enough people think it's something of interesting that the rest of us have to hear about it.
I have never thought that grey hair was a bad thing. I actually think grey hair is beautiful. When I was younger, I used to ask my mother why she always dyed over her grey. And I understand why people do, but why does anyone bother to get upset when someone doesn't?

And honestly, I agree with you, the man running our country is bound to have grey hair! And there are plenty of other things that should be talked about more that don't. Why is such a silly thing being given such unnecessary attention? It's good to know there are other people out there who are sick of this sort of thing too!

Not to brag, but I know PEOPLE who were VETTED to work for the Obama administration, while they worked on the campaign election, and they state as heresay - herein, that Obama had grey hair which he colored during the campaign. I have gray hair, it starts and does not stop. You color it or if lucky as a blonde, you can bleach it and color around it, so it does not show at all.

It does not matter.

I 'm Barack's age and 3/4ths gray. I'm damned proud of it. I 'm also a woman and pretty. I can't count how many imbeciles have asked me why I don't dye my hair. Well, it grows out naturally, I earned it and it's beautiful. We are so brain-washed by the media and all these cosmetic companies that we are actually led to believe that people are not caring for their HYGIENE if they don't dye their age away!!! I think those of us, especially women should stop dying (literally- because hair dye is toxic) and be wise! Be beautiful and in Barack's case --- be sexy!

You are very hot, Jamie, and you only get hotter as time goes by. I don't care much for our president's current agenda (though it is obviously better than the last president's agenda), but he certainly is a dignified, stylish sob. A little gray is a good thing, and so is teasing a little about the gray. In any case, Obama's wife will continue to be a babe for a long time to come, so the pres need not worry if anyone thinks he's looking a little older (and I hope to look half that good when I reach his age).

You lost me here. What's wrong with having a little fun? Especially since many of us are seeing the same thing in the mirror?

The problems we face are not the result of having a laugh at evidence of each others mortality. Nor will they be fixed by Puritanism. Happiness and joy are assets in any situation and certainly in troubled times. Surely, your films reflect that reality and address it better than most, in my opinion.

To the postter who believes that Obama is "fiddling while Rome is burning".....who do you think set Rome on fire??? Bush/Cheney lit the match 8 years ago and threw gasoline on it for 7 years there after. Give Obama a break and f-ing time!!! He's only been in office a few weeks.

Hey Jamie Lee,

FYI - the soundtrack for "Centered In The Universe" (Griffith Observatory) is available now on iTunes.

And yeah - who cares about Obama's gray hair. Jackasses....

Jamie, I guess it goes with the stories of Michelle's Inspiring shoulders and the like. The important topics seem to take a backseat and that is very sad.
