If you will recall, my devote, Irish-Catholic, 89-year-old mother just this week said the very same thing. When you lose the Catholic Daughters, you've lost them all.

I realize it's not this simple, but if your religion is causing you so much grief, why are you still following it? Why are you still working for that theocratic company?

Because most people don't understand...or don't respect...what is a principled stand.
To them "Freedom of Religion" doesn't mean equal freedom for all religions from interference from government or each other.
To them it means freedom FOR THEIR religion...and freedom FROM anyone elses. So their religion can do as it pleases, while everyone else has to limit themselves to whatever won't offend their sensibilities.

I quess that this author hasn't read the bill of rights. We the people. Its how it began the people that founded this country left there homes and family to come here so they could have freedom, not to be told how or why to live or worship. they for the most religious folks, wanted to pratice they way they wanted not to be told what and where that happens. The Bill has used by many domoncricies since then as foundation to start there countries. Its worked for 200+ years why change it now because some elitists are in power?

The cartoonist is making fun of the religious intolerance comparative between the Bishop and a muslim Mullah, drawing from their apparent shared desire to control women.
The cartoonist is also poking fun at the presumptive belief of institutional primacy over the freedom and liberty of the individual, and in this case, women...

When did the Vatican and Mecca have greater power than the US Constitution? I missed that part of US History. Question: What Amendment gave women equal power in our government?

Answer: Some say that women have equal power under the entire document, because women are never mentioned, or singled out, but, unfortunately the right to vote was left to the states to determine, and all but New Jersey denied the vote. New Jersey followed suit in 1807.
The 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote, but it was actions in the courts that gave women property rights, reproductive rights and economic freedom.
Congress did pass the Equal Rights Amendment, but the states failed to ratify it, by one state... Thank the GOP, "The Eagle Forum", Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and Phyllis Schaffley for that one.
There are several laws passed by Congress that have helped codify women's rights (Lily Ledbetter, Violence Against Women Act, Title 10 of the Equal Rights Act), but "equal power" has been elusive.
There is still work to be done, as long as there are misogynists out there trying to control women.

It's all about control. That was one reason for The Reformation.
Looks like we need another.

Freedom of their religion over the individual, people who may not even be a church member.

It does not begin with "We the Religious Institutions".
Conscience and the soul reside within the individual, not some church.
Freedom "of" religion includes freedom "from" religion...
