Ingraham, Coulter: Bullying Is Not OK

I am also confused, Meghan. Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter seem to really, really dislike you. We know they disliked your father, but going after you seems to be taking it a little far. You are 24 years old, not an elected official, not making policy decisions, and not running for president.

Here we have two women, both within a year of the age of President Obama, with the power to reach the minds of young women. If these two women care about the Republican party, democracy, and the future of America as they say they do (and I take them at their word that they do care about those things), they would come up with something, anything, productive to say, rather than get involved in this kind of bullying.

Ladies, there are young women watching. I taught them at Harvard, and I teach them at Saint Anselm's New Hampshire Institute of Politics. Is this the civic discourse you want to teach? Will your lessons help them engage in civic and political life, or prepare them to discuss issues related to democracy?

Will it encourage them to question the world around them, or consider supporting the Republican party (if that is part of your goal)?

Not that it really matters, but it is interesting to read these Wikipedia bios on Ingraham and Coulter.

Here is wikipedia's personal bio section on Laura Ingraham, born in 1965:
Ingraham once was engaged to conservative author and fellow Dartmouth alumnus Dinesh D'Souza and has dated former New Jersey Democratic Senator Robert Torricelli as well as MSNBC host Keith Olbermann.

In April 2005, she announced that she was engaged to businessman James V. Reyes, with a wedding planned in May or June 2005. On April 26, 2005, she announced that she had undergone breast cancer surgery. On May 11, 2005, Ingraham told listeners that her engagement to Reyes was canceled, citing issues regarding her diagnosis with breast cancer. Despite the breakup, she maintains that the two remain good friends, and has told listeners in 2006 that she is currently in good health.

She is a convert to Roman Catholicism. In May 2008, Ingraham began proceedings to adopt a young girl from Guatemala, whom she has named Maria Caroline.

Here is Ann Coulter's, born in 1964:
Coulter has been engaged several times, but never married. She has dated Spin founder and publisher Bob Guccione, Jr., and conservative writer Dinesh D'Souza. In October 2007, she began dating Andrew Stein, the former president of the New York City Council, a liberal Democrat. When asked about the relationship, Stein told the paper, "She's attacked a lot of my friends, but what can I say, opposites attract!" On January 7, 2008, however, Stein told the New York Post that the relationship was over, citing irreconcilable differences.

Coulter owns both a condominium in Manhattan and a house, bought in 2005, in Palm Beach, Florida. Although she says that usually she lives in New York, she votes in Palm Beach and is not registered to do so in New York. She is a fan of the Grateful Dead, and some of her favorite books include The Bible, Wuthering Heights, Anna Karenina, true crime stories about serial killers and anything by Dave Barry.

So, is the point of the Wikipedia bios that neither of these hags has any more political cred than Meghan McCain? Or just that they're so horrid that no one will marry either of them?

A very interesting common thread:

Based on his behavior at Dartmouth, he sounds like anything but a "Goldwater Conservative".

Those are some pretty heavy credentials....really carries a lot of weight to what they bring to the table....admonishing Meaghan McCain that she lacks what it takes to speak about "moderation" in a political party.

These two have taken their personal failings and their bitterness to a marketable high, enabling them to spew their ignorance and bitterness all over the place, purging their self hate in public.

Only by being a radical right wing extremist can someone make a living out of this. Just two more rail thin, anorexic, bitter white blond Republican women, trying to make a place for themselves in the world.

"Here we have two women, both within a year of the age of President Obama"

Let's put this into perspective ....
Ingraham and Coulter are TWICE Meaghan McCain's AGE
Ingraham and Coulter are OLD ENOUGH to be Meaghan McCain's MOTHER.
Ingraham and Coulter are OLD ENOUGH to be GRANDMOTHERS.
Ingraham and Coulter are way TOO OLD to be acting this way.
Ingraham and Coulter show us that AGE doesn't bring maturity.

I think the point of the wiki bio's was to establish that these thoroughly immature women are thus far only defined by those whom they have dated, associated with, and that which they own.

The problem Jennifer is apparent that this tiff was not by 2 "women" Ms. McCain has found herself up against 2 females whose maturity levels stopped developing somewhere in adolesence - thus their spurts of unbridled anger and unchecked lashing out at any perceived "enemy" and their obvious poor self image issues/ Women are far more rational, and can contain emotions in society.

Just to clarify, Meghan picked a fight with Ann, and Ann hadn't said anything, and still hasn't said anything, to Meghan or about what Meghan has said about her. She did say she didn't care during a debate with Bill Maher, but Ann hasn't picked on Meghan at all. Madam Ingraham, on the other hand, has been very outspoken, and rather rude about the whole non-existent fight between Ann and Meghan, specifically picking on Ms. McCain for reasons other than issues Meghan has within her own party.

Ann Coulter says things on a daily basis that inflame many people. It's her job. In fact, she needs notable public figures to weigh in on her opinions because she sells books that way. Ann is a constant, easy target. It's the way she plans it.

Laura Ingraham is a Limbaugh/Coulter wanna be. She's merely the latest person to say something stupid and petty--like the other two idiots we have to hear about.

What makes my jaw drop, is how any one of these three can say or do something that gets them in trouble and then completely and convincingly (apparently, only to themselves) deny they did it.

This is what Bush did. I'm seeing too much evidence that this is a Republican trait. It's a little spooky.

Nicely said (and this from an alumnus of St. Anselm). Although it does seem as though your point is lost once you get into the Wiki bios. It's not about who they are, but rather the tactics they use. Both women seem to embrace the idea that you can beat out your opponents if you're abusive and abrasive towards them. That may make good controversy for their own columns, but you're right, it sets a bad example for others. That's the real message that should be conveyed.

Since they both claim to put great personal value in the Bible, I wonder if they are familiar with the old adage of "as you sew, so shall you reap"?

Sorry to nitpick, but that should be "as you sow, so shall you reap." Unless you're doing needlework and then it's "as you sew, so shall you rip back."

Yeah, kinda' petty.
