I got a letter in the mail from a mom the other day and it took me back to the beginning of my journey. This mom had just returned home from receiving her child's autism diagnosis and was now frantically searching for help. She didn't know where to start or how to begin helping her child. And for a moment I felt lost and confused all over again. I so badly wanted to help and comfort her.
When I first received Evan's diagnosis, Google was my saving grace that brought me to Generation Rescue. In fact, I want to be able to help all families struggling with autism and provide them with the support of Generation Rescue. So much attention is given to autism during April for Autism Awareness Month but what we need is action all year long. Autism is a daily topic in our families and needs to be in this country as it's the fastest growing childhood disorder.
My organization, Generation Rescue, is turning awareness into action by giving families the opportunity to see a doctor. As simple as seeing a doctor may seem, it can literally change a child's life. For April during Autism Awareness Month we have been given the opportunity to be part of the Pepsi Refresh Campaign and are in the running for a $250,000 grant. This is so important because that amount of money can literally help 100 families. I'm so often stopped at the grocery store or in public and asked how someone can help. This is a really easy way. Please be a part of Autism Awareness Month and take action with me by voting for Generation Rescue. It's amazing how a simple vote can help so many children. Vote every day until the end April and help our kids get better.
