How Dare You!

We need to talk. How dare the leadership of the Democratic Party turn on Hillary Clinton! How dare they betray Bill Clinton! How dare they not speak out when Hillary is disrespected by words like bitch, whore and the "c" word! How dare they allow them both to be smeared as racists, playing the race card! Where was Howard Dean ? Where was Nancy Pelosi ? Where were Hillary's colleagues in the Senate when the Clintons were being so unfairly accused and denigrated? The Democratic Party has a lot to answer for. If we had stood as a party with one voice and said, "no", we will not allow one of our own to be so disturbingly maligned, we would now have a unified democratic party electorate at the end of a virtually tied primary race. Instead we are deeply divided. Now, since the party's leaders have chosen again and again not to speak up, I will.

I am a Hillary supporter and along with millions of Democrats throughout our country , I have been outraged by how the media have treated her throughout this primary season. But what is most disturbing is how my Party has stood by and allowed the demeaning and dishonest attacks on Hillary to continue. This is not the party I thought I belonged to. This is not the party that espouses fairness, justice and equality for all. This is not the party that elected Bill Clinton President in 1992 and 1996 and Hillary Clinton as Senator in 2000 and 2006. That party knew that it had benefited enormously from the Clinton administration as well as the incredible accomplishments of one of the most activist, hardworking First Ladies in our history. That Party stood proudly by a president who many called the first black president because both he and his wife had demonstrated a lifelong commitment to civil rights and human rights.

Imagine if Democratic leaders had done what Hillary did when President Bush associated Barack Obama with terrorism in his much lauded speech in Israel. Remember, Hillary gave a heartfelt statement that Barack was one of our own and she would not stand by and allow him to be so denigrated ?

Women are outraged. We are still fighting for her, and we are ashamed of how our candidate, a woman who has devoted her adult life to serving others, a woman who has been a distinguished First Lady, a woman who has helped her colleagues pass legislation and win races in their own states, a woman who has stood up for all of our rights, has been treated not just by the media but by her own Democratic Party. Throughout all this, Hillary has maintained her focus, her message and her dignity. This is truly courage under fire. This is what it takes to be a great president. It is not over until the lady in the pant suit says it is and I and millions of others are with her.

We need to talk. How dare the leadership of the Democratic Party turn on Hillary Clinton! How dare they betray Bill Clinton! How dare they not speak out when Hillary is disrespected by words like bi...

Thank you Jill for speaking up for this man!

In the lopsided narrative of the primary where Obama can virtually do no wrong and Hillary can do nothing right, it's heartening to read a perspective from the other side of this campaign. A perspective that puts into words all I feel about what Hillary and all her supporters have been subject to.

Hillary makes a factual comment on civil rights legislation and is deemed a racist for undermining MLK by the media and all the pundits. Obama says he understands that Hillary is prone to attack "PERIODICALLY when she's FEELING DOWN" and not a soul talks about the underlining sexism in that comment.

Bill equates Obama to Jesse Jackson in SC and the press says he has destroyed Hillary's chances by doing so. Obama, after winning the Iowa caucus, plays a song that has the following chorus..."I have 99 problems but the B@#*! ain't one" and no outcries of insensitivity to sexism are raised. And the examples go on and on...

My outrage as a supporter isn't because Hillary is the underdog but rather the way the media and democratic leadership has done all they could to make it happen! If this was a fair race we wouldn't all know who these journalists or party elders support, and the coverage would have been as sensitive to sexism as it was to racism.

You are not a minority woman, because if you were you would understand the depth of the real problem. That is that white women continously try to make an arguement of sexism in the face of classism and racism that heavily persists within the ranks of feminism. How dare you? The media has overlooked countless acts of racism and race baiting and racially charged comments. Both are just as easily disgusting. What bothers me is that the Hillary Clinton supporters are attempted to put sexism on the very heirarchy(over race) that they are trying to tear down.

Why don't you ask a minority woman, their feelings on race and gender? Because I bet the majority of them feel the racism within the feminist arguement because it too is exclusive.

OK folks
This ain't the junior high. All these rumors, inuendos and slams have outlived their usefulness. Race and gender and age are all second tier issues here. We all know that Obama has the youth, African Americans, wealthy-degreed European Americans, and many European Americans from the plains. Hillary has Latinos, Poor European Americans with no college degree, older Women, some old hippies and some African Americans who benefitted from the nineties. Mc Cain has the war crew.

But the real issue is the econmy. The top 1% of those doing very well, don't mind things as they are.The rest of are at the end of our ropes. I don't want to talk about the war. It's given that's got to end. The war has made a great deal of money for the oil men now in office. I need to hear all the candidates plans to get us out of this pit we find ourselves in
The rest of us have to pay them.

From what distant planet have you been watching this race? Obama has not been given a free ride. And the press fell all over itself for Clinton until her campaign degenerated into a toxic stew of slime, lies and racism. Do you honestly think Clinton's deliberate use of "hard working white people" is anything but code talk for "Don't vote for the nigger"? And all this rubbish about standing up for the poor voters of FL & MI? Those citrizens weren't disenfranchised by the DNC or Obama but by the arrogance of the state party organizations. If the outcomes had been for anyone but Clinton her campaign would be going ballistic attacking the cheats in those states who were trying to throw the nomination.
Instead of saying the Democratic party is not what you remember you should be saying that about your own candidate. I have my reservations about Obama and I supported the Clintons by all the slimy attacks against them by the extremist GOP. But they have lost all credibility in my eyes during the last 3 months by the deliberately degenerate tone of the Clinton campaign.

I have been following this race for the Whitehouse from day one and I can easily say that I can't believe the poor treatment both Clintons' have received from the National News Media, the DNC and other fellow politicians, not to mention the ungrateful blacks the Clinton have sided for throughout their political carreers. Yes indeed - it is unbelievable. A bunch of jackells. The Clintons' deserve way better than they have been getting.
Every little thing the Clintons' said was perposefully twisted to mean something else (something bad), and they were given the respect of a serial killer - how shameful of them all, for treating our ex-President and First Lady that way! The media faithfully covered the unknown and untested Obama like he were a rock star. It has been a sickening experience - shame on America for allowing this.

How dare they?

It just might be because they want to recognize the winner of the contest for the nomination who was the best at organizing, best at fundraising, best at speakiing and who did not vote to support Bush's Iraqi mis-adventure.

They might actually feel that the democtratic party is more than Hillary, Bill and the
Clintonistas who want to change the rules

It is getting to the point where I think Hillary SHOULD RUN AS AN INDEPENDENT, she can run with Joe Lieberman as VP. Sure it would destroy the legacy of the Clintons and they would become Benedict Arnolds of the Democratic Party forever branded as traitors, but if that is where their egos lead them...THEN GO. I think her being an independent candidate would be just as damaging to the GOP as to the Democrats, in the end I think Obama would beat both her and McCain. After all Obama did beat Clinton in the primaries until she came up with new math and rules. So go play by the Karl Rove tactics of campaigning, lie, cheat, and bully. That is not what the Democratic Party is about. If she did this Independent run we also would be assured that no Clinton would ever again hold elected office.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:01 PM on 05/30/2008

It may be too late for her to run as an Independent now. And Joe Lieberman is poison on any ticket in my opinion. It's not a matter of ego - it goes way deeper than that - the DNC has ruined the Dem party in many people minds and this is the last straw for many Dem voters. And actually many voters see Obama as using Carl Rove tactics, not the Clintons. Have you forgotten that Obama cried out in the beginning that the Superdelegates should not chose - but that was when he had none.

"...many called the first black president because both he and his wife had demonstrated a lifelong commitment to civil rights and human rights."?

Um ... from Toni Morrison, herself:

"People misunderstood that phrase. I was deploring the way in which President Clinton was being treated, vis-à-vis the sex scandal that was surrounding him. I said he was being treated like a black on the street, already guilty, already a perp. I have no idea what his real instincts are, in terms of race."

I don't understand this woman's point. Is she saying that the Democratic party she believes in would have defended the racist comments that the Clintons have made because of the Clinton legacy? Does she think that Senator Clinton should have been the de facto nominee because of the prior service of the Clintons?

I frankly am not impressed with the Clintons. Do you think if Obama's spouse had been disbarred for lying under oath about having a sexual affair with an employee he would have even got on the ballot? Do you think that if any other candidate had failed so grandly and absolutely as Hillary did in health care they would have ever been elected a senator let alone run for the highest office in the land?

I am sorry that so many women put so much hope behind Senator Clinton. It must be awful to be let down the way she has let down her supporters. It is amazing to me that she has not done more to keep them in the party, to talk them out of protests and boycotts. I think it would go a long way to help the rest of us in the party believe her when she says she is going to support the nominee.

Jill and her ilk are used to bullying their way through life - crying foul when there has been none. This is why they identify with Clinton.

What possible defense can there be for Clinton's wooing of racist voters in WV and KY? How would she serve those constituents if she were elected?

Clinton even turned her back on HERSELF by accepting those racist votes - even welcoming them - by providing aid and comfort to those voters whose lifestyles and voting habits are centered around racial prejudice.

Clinton used to be a pillar of the Civil Rights movement, but she is not the candidate of racists. This was her defining moment. Experience and fate came together and offered her a moment of historic greatness and she swallowed it up in her greed for votes - even racist votes. She could've rejected and denouced those voters and moved the Civil Rights agenda forward in this country and exited the race as a hero who would've gone down in history for her devotion to Civil Rights.

She lost this moment because she was thinking of herself instead of her cause. She obviously did not deserve to carry the mantle. What a pathetic excuse for a woman - much less a presidential candidate.

Jill, go have a look in the mirror - if you can.

OF COME ON! Here comes the sexism card. Clinton has been getting by on the fact that she is a white women but now thats what's holding her back ! Give me a freakin' break. Being a white women has really worked to her advantage recently since women have turned out in record numbers to vote for her (on the basis that they want to see a female president in their lifetime and that she speaks for them) and white men have voted her way in the mid-west because (by their own admission) race played a part in their decision and they couldn't see themselves voting for a black guy. This "issue" about gender and sex is absurd. Being a women has worked for her as much as it has worked against her and to bring it up as an excuse when its obvious that she will most likely lose the nomination is nothing more than a political stunt that shows that she is willing to alienate her strong female support from the rest of the Dems so that Obama will either lose (in which case she can run again in four years) or be forced into making her his running mate in order to keep the peace and keep the divide in the party from growing any bigger than it already is.

Sadly, this appears to be a serious peek into the mind of a die-hard Hillary supporter. The sexist jerks who argue that women can't hold positions of power and responsibility because they are too illogical and overly emotional are having a field day and the only thing those of us who have defended women's rights can do is stand back and watch in dismay.

What universe do you live in? I was an early old lady, Clinton supporter. I read three newspapers and switch between MSNBC and Fox (know your enemy) all day. I listen to Air America in the car. What the hell are you talking about....? What fake outrage. Listen to the truth: The first woman president of the United States will not feel entitled to it. That woman will not run as as the "first woman". Clinton lost fair and square to a black man who did not run as the "First black President". You may not be for Obama now, but he will fairly represent you.

If Hillary Clinton is so intent on only respectful, truthful comments being made about the candidates, perhaps she can explain her Bosnia LIE a little better, or even her comment about Barack Obama not being a Muslim..................................AS FAR AS I KNOW.
She knew Obama is not a Muslim and could have cleared up the misconception of approximately 20% of Democrats.
But..................................she did not.
But, what good would that do HER!!
So, glass houses and all that..........................................

No, it's funny but I don't remember Hillary ever defending Obama. She even hinted that she didn't know he was not a Muslim, for gosh sake (as far as I know...).

Hillary has taken every opportunity to disrespect Sen. Obama, while he has said unbelievably gracious things about her in return. Remember when she said, "I have my experience, John McCain has his, and Sen. Obama has a speech he gave TWO years ago!" As far as I'm concerned, that was the beginning of the end for Sen. Clinton. She never should have built up the Repub candidate and torn down her opponent in the same breath. Not good. With Dems like that, we don't need Repubs!

It's over, the Race was fair and square. Ske's a sore loser. She was never able to surpass Obama in Pledged delegates, those are the facts. He's approx 45 delegates away from the nomination. He is the presumptive nominee.

Unfortunately, she threw away her chances of being VP last week with her crazy RFK remark. Just simply 'unforgvable'. I think she made some enemies lately and her creditability ad her reputation has been forever scarred... Theres no end to her madness. She would rather drive a wedge in the party then 'Graciously' bow out like someone with Class. I thought she was a 'Class Act' however, she has proven otherwise.

Barak, his Camp and the internet has changed the dynamics of Politics. It's not the same ole game and the same ole states that u previously needed to win in primaries to win in the General Election. This is where she messed up. She was stuck in old politics and old tradition. She still states these stale agruments, however she still losing. Oh she won Ohio but lost 11 contest in a row. She's been around for 35 years , her election and nominee shouls have been a cinch. However we see somthing different happenning.

Another truth is that Barak doesn't need all of her supporters to win the General Election, just enuff to win.

Ms. Iscol's argument, and similar arguments that others, including Hillary Clinton herself, have made, that Clinton has been the victim simply doesn't wash.

For every invective or slur hurled at Clinton by some over-zealous Obama supporter because she is female, at least an equal number have been hurled at Obama by over-zealous Clinton supporters because of his heritage.

This has been a truely equal opportunity political fight for the nomination that has been closer than any in modern history. If Clinton and Obama had been two white guys, the discourse would have been equally nasty.

Further, I would contend that Clinton has enjoyed a unique advantage in this race because so few in the media, until very recently, have been willing to write off her candidicy as having failed when it was apparant to any objective observer many weeks ago.

I agree with you that the Clintons enjjoyed a HUGE advantage in this election, in that they were well-known and covered by the media MUCH more often than Sen. Obama. If you noticed, days went by without hearing his name, and the Clintons were sucking up all the oxygen. It wasn't always 100% positive, but they always had the coverage. They have to take the bad with the good.

IMHO any demo, whether an ardent HRC or BHO supporter and who at this critical juncture in our nation's history, will threaten boycotts/protests etc and diminish our chances of winning the election this year are not democrats. They are rethugs or closet rethugs and could cost us the election. Any of these who assume that a rethug victory would be a 4 year term need to look at history - we would likely be doomed to at least 8 more years of rethug rule. As the rethugs have almost destroyed our country in the past 20 years, this would be disastrous.
It is past time to bring the party together and win this thing this year. I am sure that HRC or BHO would do this. It is a shame that a significant number of embittered supporters on either side would threaten our chances of victory. Note that in the last poll on this matter, 29% of HRC supporters stated that they would either not vote or would vote for McCain instead of for BHO. Shameless.
