It's Time for Ms. Bachmann to Leave Washington

Posted: 07/19/2012 5:40 pm

Something remarkable just happened in Washington. In an ironic twist, Rep. Michele Bachmann -- who's made a name for herself by peddling the politics of division and polarization -- actually managed to bring people from both sides of the aisle together. That is to say, Democrats and Republicans came together this week to denounce Rep. Bachmann's McCarthy-like witch hunt, in which she accused, among others, Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, of being complicit in a grand scheme to institute Sharia law here in America.

Rep. Bachmann's accusation represents "an unwarranted and unfounded attack" with "no logic, no basis, and no merit" against " an honorable woman, a dedicated American and... an intelligent, upstanding, hard-working and loyal servant of our country and our government, who has devoted countless days of her life to advancing the ideals of the nation she loves and looking after its most precious interests."

Those are the words of Sen. John McCain's from the floor of the Senate yesterday. I stand with him. And I stand with Rep. Bachmann's former presidential campaign chief, Edward Rollins, who said in an editorial published by Fox News that what Rep. Bachmann has done is "outrageous," "false," "extreme," "unsubstantiated," "downright vicious and reaches the late Senator Joe McCarthy level." I use their words because, in this political culture, such strong condemnations from members of the same party are rare. It's proof that Rep. Bachmann has gone way too far this time and that is why I'm asking people to join me in demanding that she end these McCarthy-style attacks.

Rep. Bachmann's hateful rhetoric -- her use of fear to promote her own political agenda -- is aimed at dividing our country and it weakens our ability to take on the biggest challenges we face as a nation.

This is exactly why I decided to take her on in this election -- she has gotten away with these stunts for too long. They distract from the economic issues that hard-working families across Minnesota are concerned about. They make public servants afraid to reach across the aisle to get work done for America.

I have never been afraid to bring people together to get the job done. I grew up as one of six siblings in an ordinary working-class family in St. Cloud, Minnesota. After teaching elementary school for two years, I launched my own family business while working out of my basement office with little more than a typewriter and a plan.

That company grew into a successful hospitality business that has employed thousands of people throughout Minnesota and across the country. According to Rep. Bachmann's definition, I am a "job creator." But I know that the true job creators are the hard working middle-class families across the country, whose demand for American products and services fuels the economy. Today, families are suffering under the weight of home mortgage payments, skyrocketing medical costs, tuition fees, unemployment and underemployment. It is time to address issues that really matter -- not chase wild conspiracy theories in a self-interested attempt for fame and publicity.

The people of Minnesota's 6th Congressional district realize that Rep. Bachmann is more interested in promoting her own celebrity than working to improve the lives of American families. Recent polls show that voters are tired of it and they're not going to put up with it anymore, which is why we are now within just a few points.

Rep. Bachmann's recent antics are part of a much broader pattern of behavior. It is
unlikely that she will stop on her own. However, we can bring her destructive politics to an end by closing the book on her career in Congress this November. We've never had a better opportunity.

I've got to say that I "sort of" agree with the article. As a recovering Democrat, I used to hate Michele. Not sure why. Everyone around me rolled their eyes whenever her name was mentioned, the media blasted her, and I followed suit. When I moved to her district, I started to look into her politics. What I found was she's actually a genuine woman with a fiery passion for her country; and she knows her stuff.
The problem is that she has a lot of foot-in-mouth moments that have caused her to be the butt of a lot of jokes. Instead of bowing out of politics or buckling, she's fought back with aggression. I admit that I like that about her. Politicians like Hillary, Sarah, and Michele are easy targets because they're women. It's okay for men to be extreme and offensive, but as soon as a woman is, she needs to be put in her place. That's B.S.
To be honest, I'm not sure who I'll vote for in November. I like Graves. I do. But I also have a lot of respect for Michele now. She's passionate about her country and she also works harder than any politician I've ever encountered. (In her own district, by the way!)
The reason I like Graves is that he's middle of the road. Not too blue--not too red. But, it's pretty easy to persuade someone like that. At least I know where Michele falls on every topic.

Bachmann's witch hunting is a great skill for those wanting to recreate America in that grand experiment of Salem circa 1600 where gossip could get fellow citizens hung. It's so sad that she was born after the constitution and the messy democratic process where one must mix with sweaty humanity.
Maybe she can set up a Sin 'd jour clinic for Muslims, like she did for the gays. She's such a hero. She's just too good and pure to be in politics.

Good article, Huffington Post. I agree. This Congresswoman is disgusting. What she is saying is harmful not only to foreign service office civilians, but to all of our active duty military also. She keeps talking stuff like this people are gonna get killed. She is not only an embarassment to her constituents in Minnesota, but all America also.

She needs to step down and seek employment with Fox PORNO (Political Organization-Republican News Only) News as a paid political consultant. The way she is acting right now, she is fully qualified and has passed her audition with flying colors. Quit, Bachmann. Fox News is calling for you. Plenty of people there of your worthless ilk to hobnob with.

Representative Bachmann is a member of the House Intelligence Committee...that right there is the problem. How is she able to serve on a committee that has more intelligence in its title than she has coursing through her entire body? lol!

These apologizing Republicans ought to take a look in the mirror and castigate themselves for doing the same thing as Bachmann. They've just been doing it more subversively.

I think we all know Miss Bachman will havea few problems in her life, her very poor attacks on others luckily backed up by her sharp wit and high moral standards, she has to ensure she always attacks the poor or weak or someone who either because of their financial position or employment is incapable of defending themselves. She emulates everything, she, the tea party and the hard right of the Republican Party stands for to a "T" and she simply shows on a continuious basis that she is not fit to be any kind of a leader in this or any other country.

If there is no proof then she should definitely not be bringing this up, although I thought she has 3 relatives with terrorist connections?

You will never know, but I thought those 2 were lovers, she is pretty butchy and the other one is pretty nice. She started as an intern and we know the Clinton's like their interns..

She should get her own Fox News talk show. They would understand her completely over there. As for me... not so much.

Here's a suggestion: Ask your web designer to dump the scripting on your site. You're locking folks like me out. So many people are blocking scripting these days for security reasons. I have my parents set up with NoScript. My Dad would likely want to donate to your campaign, but he'd look at your site, get frustrated and leave without doing it. You want your site to be as low-tech as possible.

Good luck to you Sir.

Its my greatest hope that we get more representatives willing to work 'across the aisles'. I've written my own rep repeated pointing that his marginal win is indicative that he should take a more centrist view. Sadly, he continues to toe the Tea Party line.

And there's the problem. How do you work across the aisle when the aisle is about a mile wide and there's no common ground between the players? We're polarized. How do we end that?

Listening to the Ed show this afternoon (from last night), a person on the panel described Michelle Bachmann as the only person serving in Congress as an outpatient. That pretty much sums it up.
