Why Does GOP Prefer More Taxes for the Middle Class?

As this table from John McKinnon's July 26th article in the Wall Street Journal notes, a married couple earning $85,000 per year will pay $800 LESS in 2011 taxes under President Obama's proposed tax policies than under the Bush era policies supported by Republicans.

We are hearing more and more from Republicans wringing their hands (and writing notes on them) about their desire to extend the Bush era tax cuts for the wealthy. They're trying to paint the President and Democrats as being in favor of higher taxes, but as Bob Cesca and others note, the reality is keeping the Bush cuts in place will force people earning between $60,000 - $150,000 to pay MORE than if President Obama's proposals are enacted.

It's time for Democrats to start calling the Republicans out on this crap. If Republicans think voters support higher taxes on the middle class and lower taxes on the wealthy, they are sorely confused.
