Habeas Coyote Corpus

What's Your Reaction:

"The more ignorant you are, the quicker you fight." ~ Will Rogers

The governor of Texas is a weinie. I can't reach any other conclusion after reading the report about him shooting a coyote that threatened his daughter's puppy. Rick Perry said that he was jogging on a hill country trail near where he lives in a rented home and the animal came out and threatened his little dawgie. Governor Gun pulled out a Ruger and sent the coyote to the big lonesome and empty prairie coyotes go to when governors gun them down.

But I've got some questions, your governorship.

First, I can say I've run thousands of miles on trails in Texas and I have never once thought of carrying a gun. Well, yeah, a squirt gun. I used to have a Doberman that came after me on a dirt road and I solved that by mixing some ammonia into water and putting it into a little squirt gun. Got the big dog in the eyeballs next time he came barking after me and when he saw me pass by a few days later he ran away more like a chicken than a dog. No shot fired in anger.

Perry said he carried the gun because he was afraid of snakes and that a number of people living in that area have lost pets to wild animals. Well, Governor Gun, that's the way nature is ordered. Big fish eat little fish. Wild animal eat domestic animal. You don't want your cat turned into a coyote hairball, keep it in the house. But afraid of snakes and you carry a gun? I don't know any trail runner under the Lone Star sky that hasn't come across a rattler or seven. And not one of them ever said, "Hey, I think I'll carry a gun and kill rattlers the next time." Unless you surprise a rattler, it's going to slither away real danged fast. And governor, I've seen you run; you aren't going to surprise a snake or a turtle.

Too much of yer yarn just doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense. Whenever I see you plodding around Lady Bird Lake, you generally have two DPS guys, but always at least one trailing you. Sometimes they run. Often they are on bikes. And they have guns. What the hell do you need a gun on a running trail for when you've got, according to the AP story, two DPS security guys running with you? Three guns and one coyote? That's just not an honorable way to handle these things governor, and not the way we do it in Texas.

And, although I've never done it, seems to me like running and carrying a gun has to be kind of uncomfortable. I read you were packing your pistol in a holster. I just find it odd that you put on the running shorts, the Nike shoes, a tee shirt, and a ball cap, and then strapped on your coyote widow maker. Who the hell does such a thing? And not just a regular ol' 380 Ruger. This baby has a laser sight. You're really scared, aren't you? Those nasty slithering, phallic things on the ground don't have a chance, do they? Seriously, you are so afraid of snakes that you armed yourself to go for a run? Aren't there some other unsettled issues that you aren't talking about here? Let me also add, be thankful for your Anglo-Saxon heritage. Being ethnic and running with a gun in Texas, on a trail or a road, might end up with a living creature other than an animal being shot.

There's something else. If this happened in February, why are you just now sharing this? It seems to me that you would have been a little excited the day you turned coyote killer and you might have mentioned it to a reporter or a political pal that could have let it slip to someone, somewhere. But nothing until two months later? Sorry, sounds a little too neat. And if you were trying for the tough guy image, whacking a coyote isn't really gonna do that for you. Nor is packin' heat cuz you are afraid of things that go slither in the sun. I guess I have to say I don't believe your story. I need testimony or signed witness statements from your two backup gunmen in the DPS. That might convince me.

Or let's just do this by the books. The law books. If you were accused of being a coyote killer, the law would have to respond to habeas corpus and bring up the body to prove someone had been killed. Or you'd have to be cut loose to deal with more snakes. But let me turn that around on you. Prove you killed a coyote. Habeas coyote corpus. Ah, but you can't produce a body because the critter has been gone for two months. You said he's "mulch."

So's your story, Governor Gun.

My 18 year old daughter just went for a run this afternoon and a coyote came out of the bushes and started stalking her. Know what she did? She waved her arms menacingly and roared at it and it ran away. Might try that next time, Governor--or maybe that wouldn't be a cool enough story for you to tell to demonstrate your manliness.

And had the coyote been rabid, that would not have scared it off. In fact, that is one of the behavioral indicators that an animal is rabid -- you can't scare it off.

Look, here is a link to what Gov. Perry carries. A Ruger LCP with a Crimson Trace laser attached. http://www.crimsontrace.com/Home/Products/Ruger/LG431/tabid/361/Default.aspx
The Ruger LCP is a very close copy of the Kel-Tec P3-AT (Pistol - .380 ACP) as seen at this link http://www.crimsontrace.com/Home/Products/KelTec/LG430/tabid/299/Default.aspx.
I carry the latter gun and laser combo daily in a pocket holster in my right front jeans pocket. No larger or thicker that a man's wallet and not that much heavier. Loaded it weighs about 13 ounces.

With the factory sights used on the Ruger being nearly unusable, the laser is definitely the way to go. The built-in sights of the Kel-Tec aren't a lot better, so I'd definitly put a laser on it as well.

Governor Perry is a very insensitive Governor. I personally do not understand how ignorant Republicans

are to put up with him.

This guy has turned Texas into a Police state! Traffic tickets are "issued" for the most menial

mistakes. I got a $200 ticket for having a chipped tail light cover ( the size of a Penny!!) . I personally

think the TeaBaggers are eyeing the wrong enemy! State governments are the problem!!!

Unless the state is Massachusetts, Vermont, or something like those. Hmmmmm

Some issues I find with the article. 1. I have no problem with the Governor carrying a gun because it is his right as an American no matter if he has security or not. I carry a gun everywhere I can because it all comes down to the story I will post below (see link). 2. If a coyote was about to attack my dog I would not wait for someone else to come to my aid and save it. It is my responsibility as a pet owner to protect my pet. The same goes for my family. 3. Coyote's are different then a domesticated doberman. They carry rabies and any number of other diseases. 4. I don't think think him waiting had anything to do with his manhood or that it was some elaborate cover-up. I think it's just that he shot a coyote in defense of his dog (which many would do b/c a pet is a child to most) and that was that. There didn't need to be a public inquiry because it was unimportant and I'm sure other business was on his mind. I would like to see the context of how this came up. Was it about gun control? Running? The environment? Or like the author tries to portray was the governor trying to be macho? Something tells me if he's smart enough to be governor he's probably smart enough to not brag about killing a coyote.

He doesn't want to be seen as less of a man than the half term governor of his sister state who shoots wolves from a helicopter. Impressed Sistah?

Do you bring any expertise, on either subject, to the discussion? Or do you only bring your bigotry?

What exactly do you bring to the discussion? I mean, beyond empty pro-gun rhetoric and an acceptance of the logic in taking a laser sighted pistol out jogging?

"I guess I have to say I don't believe your story."

I'm a gun-toting Republican, and I don't believe his story, either.

Perry's been playing to the mob, and his coyote story is just another example. He's trying to create an image that conservatives will be unwilling to question. The sad thing is, too many of my conservative compadres will fall for it.

10/28/9 Cape Breton park. Toronto singer killed by coyotes.
Taylor Mitchell, a 19-year-old Toronto singer whose debut album was released in March, has died in a Nova Scotia hospital after being mauled by coyotes in a Cape Breton park.
Mitchell was hiking Tuesday on the Skyline Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park when she was attacked by two coyotes. Another hiker, who was walking nearby, heard her cries for help and called 911

What a laugh! The fact that you consider a coyote being shot NEWS, is a sad commentary on just how desperate some people are to say something negative about someone... SHALLOW!

in a normal society gun packing joggers do not stop to leisurely kill small wild animals. That is just not normal.
10:47 AM on 04/30/2010
since coyotes run about 40 pounds--they are definitely threats (especially to small dogs, cats and toddlers)

Coyotes are not small animals. They are the size of a small Lab, and they are predators. They will attack anything they think they can get away with, and are known to kill pets all across the country. They have attacked hikers/joggers and small children.

Yeah, he was standing at the entrance to a cave, bleeding from multiple dog bites, with just one bullet left to ward off the vicious rabid coyote pack.

He then looks up, smiles and says, "I'm saving my last bullet for YOU, America".

Fade to black....actually make that fade to white.

I thought the same thing when I read the story the other day. He's making it up to play "cowboy" for his gun totin', tobacco spittin' base. This story smacked of Bush walking like he just got off the horse (that he was afraid of), or wearing a flight suit with a cod-piece and declaring Mission Accomplished. Now that I hear this supposedly took place months ago, it is even more obvious it is a campaign strategy.

ALl of us who are forced to live with Ricky as a gov know he is a jerk and a liar. A coyote is a shy small creature that acan be frightened off by anyone with a loud sound or a a sudden movement. I think Ricky is , as usual, full of BS , and trying to show off for the other Bubbas as he ramps up for the November race. Dear God I hope Bill wins

In a pack I am sure in fact I kmnow they can be dangerous but a lone coyote please! I live in the country and dear coyotes are a fact of life . I breed standard poodles who weigh about 70-100 lbs apiece the coyotes are afraid of them . WHen the coyotes come up to to the house and they do I wave a broom around or shout and they scoot. mama poodles usually run them off before I have too though. Ricky must think he's a real dead eye though if he's carrying a 38 when he jogs to pot snakes with, Snakes, there another vicious group for you they'rre just out there waiting folr the gov to thunder by .
