"I see her as the little girl I once was, playing with a Barbie dream house in the bedroom I had as a child. And she speaks to me with the innocence of a child and all the wisdom of an 80 year old screw-fear-been-there-and-done-it-all badass..."
Did you ever have an amazing opportunity right in front of you, and not take it? An opportunity to transform your business? Your finances? Hell, maybe even your entire life?
And why didn't you take it? What conversations were you having, in your head and out loud, about why you shouldn't go for it?
"I can't afford it"
"I'm not good enough"
"I don't have the skills/experience"
"I'm not worth it"
"I can work it out myself"
"It's not meant for people like me"
"It probably wouldn't work for me"
And do you still think about it? Still wish you'd taken it? Or are you seeing opportunities, just like that, passing you by every single day? And still you're struggling to attract the success that you want? Still struggling to build a business that's more than just a hobby? Still struggling to live a life you love?
The funny thing about all those statements, is that none of them are real reasons to pass up an opportunity. They're just fear. Terror in fact.
But it's not the real you that's afraid. It's just your inner wimp.
Yes... your inner wimp: the voice of your ego, that is determined to make sure you stay stuck exactly where you are: in your (hugely uncomfortable but safe) comfort zone.
Why? Because in your comfort zone, you don't have to be a serious business woman with a clear strategy and a brilliant brand. And, you don't have to be highly visible, putting yourself in the face of your audience multiple times every single day. And you don't have to suffer the pain of your marketing being ignored or your offers not selling.
Because your inner wimp spends far too much time focused on lack (of time, money, energy, etc) and worrying about embarrassment. Because your ego is so very easily bruised. It asks...
"What will people think of me?"
"What if people don't like me?"
"What if no one wants my stuff?"
"What if I'm really not good enough?"
"What if I go all in, and fail?"
But it's ok. Because this isn't the real you. It's merely the conditioned part of your psyche.
So, instead, when you have an incredible opportunity, tell your inner wimp to pipe down, and instead take some time to tap into your higher-self. Your eternal loveliness. That part of you which is untouched by the conditioning of the world (parents, society, life, and expectations).
When I reach deep to find my higher-self, I see her as the little girl I once was, playing with a Barbie dream house in the bedroom I had as a child. And she speaks to me with the innocence of a child and all the wisdom of an 80 year old screw-fear-been-there-and-done-it-all badass. She asks...
"How much do you really want it?"
"Will it move you closer to your goals?"
"Can you live with the consequences if it doesn't work?"
"Is there a more effective way to reach your goals, right now?"
"Can you afford not to?"
"Where can you find the resources you need, to go ahead?"
So, next time you find yourself with an opportunity to truly transform yourself or your business. Don't listen to your inner wimp. Dig deep, and take some guidance from your higher-self.
I wonder what she looks like...
