As part of its investigation of a breakthrough health care innovation in Rwanda, NOW on PBS host David Brancaccio interviews Rwandan President Paul Kagame about why he believes universal health care in Rwanda is crucial for the country's social, political, and economic advancement.
President Kagame also discusses international aid, and his vision for a healthy, financially-independent Rwanda.
"Prosperity depends mainly and largely on people," Kagame tells Brancaccio. "So, our people must be healthy, must be educated, and must have skills in order for that resource to develop."

Thank you Huff Po - and Mr Bracanccio for putting forward what President Kagame is doing in this part of Africa. I cannot say enough about the up hill struggle that Rwanda has faced to come to terms with what happened in 1994. The leadership has refused to do business as usual despite the naysayers and critics who think he has been too tough, too strict, too demanding, too uncompromising.....Since when was it a bad thing to ask more from your people? The results speak for themselves if you are paying attention.
We have education, health care for everyone no matter what income level, we have more women in parliament than any nation in the world (that's not a typo!) , we have just been ranked by the World Bank as one of the top countries to invest in with minimal to zero corruption - and this is just 15 years later.
Fired up! Ready to go!
