Family Research Council: Obama Program to Help Gay Elderly is Wasted Since Gays Die Young Anyway

Aside from the hateful venom here, what's really interesting is that the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins appears to be, yet again, quoting the research of a known hate group. The whole "gays die young" thing is the brain child of Paul Cameron, a debunked "doctor" who was kicked out of various medical societies, and whose anti-gay research, the Southern Poverty Law Center says, has "echoes of Nazi Germany." The SPLC also labels Cameron's organization a "hate group." (Links to proof of all of this are in this post.)

Is ignorance the cause of bigotry or is it bigotry that precipitates ignorance? In the sick case of Paul Cameron, ignorance is no excuse. Dr. Cameron is simply convinced of things that are not so and happily twists facts to fit his preconceptions. The Family Research Council is an oxymoron. They do no research; they habitually distort the results of other people's findings, to fit their reactionary mission.. Anyone who knows their positions, knows the "facts" that they squish to fit them.

My question is: Why does anyone, who is not a bigot, listen to these paradigms of intellectual unfitness?

The family research council is a waste of time considering the rate of teen pregnancy and the divorce rate among conservative christian families far exceeds other categories. It should be wrapped up and discarded.

There's something I truly don't understand. Why do so many people on the right just outright lie about gay people? And the media not only doesn't challenge it (their duty) they spread the lies far and wide. Of course the lies aren't only about gay people, but it seems those lies are the ones the media has no problem spreading.

Of course that is what they would claim, but I think the figures tell a different story that gays do live to be old, but the right will make up anything to smear the left even if it is based on bad resoning.

One wonders what the world would look like if news media gave these people spouting this line the actual coverage they deserved. Placing them in the Comedy section right next to the article about the guy who claims to have seen Jesus in his corn flakes instead of the news section.

Have you ever been to a Metropolitan Community Church? Well over 1/3 of the congregation is gay--probably closer to 80%--and they worship and love Christ and know that the love is returned.

I attend a Disciples of Christ church and our congregation is easily 20-25% gay. I've attended United Church of Christ church where the congregation was roughly 50% gay. Not all Christians and their churches are represented by the Pat Robertson/James Dobson/Fred Phelps hatemongers and the Christ that I know certainly isn't represented by these men.

Cryostatic, there are a LOT of members of the LGBT community in churches. My church also has about 1/3 LGBT members, and our senior pastor is a lesbian and our associate pastor is a gay man. Every mainline denomination has a significant LGBT population scattered throughout its congregations--some congregations have more LGBT folks than others, and some, like mine, have a lot.
