Matt Moore, 'Ex-Gay' Activist Caught on Grindr, Owes an Apology to LGBT Youth

By propagating the dangerous and discredited "ex-gay" myth through his writings and activism, Moore has legitimized a culture of religion-based bigotry that causes many vulnerable LGBT youth to experience depression and anxiety, abuse drugs and attempt suicide.

Matt Moore is an "ex-gay" blogger for the Christian Post who has written extensively about homosexuality and his alleged journey out of the so-called "gay lifestyle."

"Although I have same sex thoughts on a daily basis, I do not, in any way, feel compelled to ever return to a lifestyle of homosexuality," Moore claimed in one blog post. "My stomach actually turns at the site [sic] of homosexual 'relations,'" he wrote in another.

But this week blogger and activist Zinnia Jones was tipped off about a Grindr profile in Louisiana that appeared to belong to Moore. In case you're not aware, Grindr is an incredibly popular location-based social networking app for smartphones, created exclusively for gay and bisexual men.

Jones noted that the personal information contained in the Grindr profile (name, age, year of birth, recent move to New Orleans) matched Moore's profiles on Facebook and Twitter. She contacted him for comment, and the self-proclaimed "ex-gay" admitted that the profile was indeed his:

The grindr profile was really mine. I've been on it on and off for the last couple of weeks.

Like I told the guy who sent you the picture, I am wrong in having been on grindr. I haven't changed my views on homosexuality, the bible, etc.

Creating a grindr profile and talking to guys on it was major disobedience on my part....disobedience to Christ. Disobedience to a loving and gracious God. Thankfully, I believe that He forgives me for this disobedience. I believe the blood of Christ covers this disobedience. And I won't be on grindr again....ever.

The pastor of my church and the church body I am a part of were informed about me being on grindr (I told them) before all of this came out, publicly.

Matt Moore is clearly deluding himself (even Exodus International's Alan Chambers knows you can't pray away the gay), and his willful enslavement to self-loathing homophobia is absolutely tragic. However, he isn't just an isolated, confused gay man in denial about his true sexual orientation. By propagating the dangerous and discredited "ex-gay" myth through his writings and activism, Moore has led other frightened LGBT people astray and legitimized a culture of religion-based bigotry that causes many vulnerable LGBT youth to experience depression and anxiety, abuse drugs and attempt suicide.

Instead of apologizing to Christ, Matt, I suggest you apologize to them.
