ALBANY - Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino has accused the mainstream, liberal media of quoting him in news stories.

"I never said I don't want children brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option," he said, after news stories reported that he said he didn't want children brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option.

"What I said was I don't want children brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option," he said. "I stand by what I didn't say."

He also objected to interpretations of his remarks as anti-gay. "Anti-gay remarks are not anti-gay," he said. "I'm homophobic and I'm not anti-gay."

He said that he simply wanted to distinguish himself from Andrew Cuomo, as if there were anyone on six continents, brainwashed or not brainwashed, who would have trouble distinguishing the two.

Paladino joins Christine O'Donnell, Meg Whitman and other Tea Party candidates who have objected to accurate portrayals of themselves in the media.

"I don't like people putting my words in my mouth," he said. "If you're even thinking of reporting what I say, I'll take you out, buddy."
