No, Rush didn't put one of those delightful "Just Hang in There" kitty- cat posters up in his "heavily fortified bunker." But according to a rather weepy piece in the Wall Street Journal, Rush is upset that the Obama camp is portraying him as being a bigot.
By quoting a bigoted statement he's made.
The Obama campaign is running new Spanish language ads in Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico which quote Limbaugh as using the phrase "stupid and unskilled Mexicans" and telling Mexicans to "shut your mouth, or get out" of America.
In his WSJ piece Limbaugh doesn't deny making the statements. His issue is that the statements are taken out of context.
Context?
What is it with bigots that makes them think there is a context for bigotry? When much was made of that paragon of virtue Bill Bennett's assertion "if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose -- you could abort every black baby in this country,"
Bill and his supporters claimed that statement was taken out of context.
No one who wasn't wearing a white hood has ever fully explained to me what the context is for positing the extermination of black children to lower the crime rate.
And as with Trent Lott extolling the virtues of Strom Thurmond, or George Allen and his Macaca moment, or Lynn Westmoreland tossing aside euphemisms in favor of simply getting to it and calling Barack Obama "uppity," there is seemingly always some unspoken but acceptable frame of reference for race baiters to bait race.
So when Limbaugh speaks of "stupid and unskilled Mexicans" and tells them to "shut your mouth, or get out" what's missed by the chattering classes is that these are actually -- according to Rush -- "humorous monologue(s)" or "parody."
Yeah. You know, the way Amos and Andy was penetrating social satire.
My problem with Rush is not that he's a bigot. Bigots are actually funny to me in the way that people who still wear parachute pants give me a chuckle. What bothers me about Rush's ilk is that they don't actually have the stones to be real racists or women haters or anti- Semites. Though they irresponsibly fan the flames of hatred, they don't own the strength of their convictions. When they are called on their stuff they run back to their bunker, which is heavily fortified for a reason, crying "but it was only a joke!"
Like when Rush joked that Obama was a "haf-rican," or when he jested that Obama was a "magical negro."
Oh, the hilarity.
Be a man, Rush. Be a hateful man, but be a man instead of a pasty- lookin' crackhead drug addict whose wives keep ditching him 'cause he's impotent.
That last bit was just satire, of course, so please don't take it out of context.
PS: In case you missed it previously, here's a link to Vol. 3 of the Guide to the Conservative Palinguage.

Hey! Parachute pants are totally fine in their proper context (the 80s)!
its so funny, Rush has a spanish translator now, so you all cant misquote him in spanish! You gotta love Rush..
Rush is a naughty boy.
Excellent article Mr Ridley! I particularly agree with the comment about Bill Bennett and his statement about aborting all black males. He made the comment on his radio program and his relationship with Foxnews ended shortly after that. I could never figure out why CNN would hire this man as a contributor because I believe that if he had made a similar statement about jews he could have never worked in broadcasting again. Does anyone remember what happened to Arsenio Hall's show after his friendly enterview with Luis Farakhan? The show was cancelled within 2 weeks of that interview. The difference? Jews won't stand for this kind of bigotry, blacks and hispanics are too complacent.
Blain,
I never watched Arsenio Hall that much because I was usually in bed. But I thought that something was strange about his departure. Thanks for enlightening me.
I don't think that we are complacent-we just don't have the power that Jews do. And we are not WHITE!
I didnt know that.
Many Mexican's do endorse the Republican's and the likes Of Limpball. Here is a qoute from one named Lima who support McSame.
The chairman of the Republican Party in New Mexico's most populous county resigned Thursday, nearly a week after saying "Hispanics consider themselves above blacks" and won't vote for Obama.
Yes, but that's one of those New Mexican Mexicans who likes to think he's only Spanish. He doesn't speak for the overwhelming majority of us. Also, I believe Rush is probably referring to the recent immigrant, not the Mexican-American whose family has been here for 5 or 7 generations. Although, I'm sure he has his racist thoughts on them, too.
Wow, nothing like racism within the race. Why can't people just have their own values, opinions, and beliefs? i didn't realize that what I'm born as dictated how I have to think or behave; or that someone else could tell me that I'm not really who I say I am.. If I were one of those $5 million middle-class folks, I might be tempted to vote for the Bush/C..oops McCain/Palin ticket.
correction ..Mexicans
that's funny as with many third world minorities, some of those of the latin persuasion have very very dark skin. the moors were some bad eefers werent' they?
Well said Mr. Ridley
I wouldn't mind having Rush explain his views on Blacks, Mexicans and other's with me face to face.
My uncle is a card carrying DittoHead. We've never directly talked about my being gay and I'm sure my mother has said something to him about it. But he is a bigot just like Rush, listens to and agrees with everything Rush says.
This result comes from those who are not trained to think for themselves.
"...those who are not trained to think for themselves"... that's funny, that's the same thing Conservatives, Independents, Libertarians, and probably Repubs, say about liberals.
Here is a thought; limbuagh suffers the same fate as Imus. Oh! I see. This is the Execellence in Buffoonery network.
The saddest commentary here is that there are still many people in this country that listen to him and believe his warped and outdated views. Rush is irrelevant and the rest of us need to ignore him and his ilk.
We know that Rush has about 50 percent of the country on his side, the same group of people that put W in the white house twice, what we have to do this election cycle is to garner 51 percent of the electorate or just one vote more than John McCain in the electoral college and these "subtle" racists will be marginalized.
I think the future Senator from Minnesota. Al Franken said it best in his factual, hilarious best seller;
"Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot".
Obama/Biden
If what you say is true I don't think it you can effectively "marginalize" 50% of the population unless you live in a totalitarian state, and if you can, be afaid, be very afraid.
"You know, the way Amos and Andy was penetrating social satire."
Nicely put, Mr. Ridley.
Limbaugh is a bombastic, bellicose blowhard who relies on pissing people off in order to draw an audience. The best strategy is to simply ignore him.
Ignoring an idiot who broadcasts nationwide isn't a good idea. Criticize the mofuyer.
Limbaugh can't stand himself ,let alone the Hispanics/Mexicans or the Blacks,or those who are mixed.
Who listens to Rush Limbaugh? He is totally irrelevant in this day and age and needs to STFUAD. I was in Madison WI last week for a conference and turned the radio on and much to my disgust he came on the air. I survived two minutes of his hateful diatribe and switched channels. This is a man that does not have a college education, married multiple times, drug addicted, is clearly unhealthy in both body and soul and people are taking advice on who to vote for. Get real America!
the biggest political blunder in decades has been the reluctance of progressives/leberals/dems to acknowledge the dominance of the talk radio monopoly in enableing this bush disaster. limbaugh is the point man for the most effective political propaganda machine this country has ever had. he and his wannabes reach 60MIL or more with GOP coordinated uncontested repetition all day long. it does the groundwork for all GOP swiftboating. it prechews the talking points and gives credibility to lies and distortions to make them acceptable to lazy TV and print talking heads. the GOP talk radio monopoly dominates local politics in the red states where there are few alternatives for people who want to hear the current events, news, politics, sports, weather traffic while working or driving. limbaugh and hannity need to be aknowledged regularly by liberals for the lies they spread about their candidates and causes. as long as the talk radio monopoly controls over 90% of talk stations, 1000 of them or 20 avg per state, real democracy and bipartisanship are impossible.
Two words.
Fairness Doctrine.
Still trying to figure out the Obama ad linking McCain and Rush. What was that about?
Why don't you do a little research and find out?
