My series of slideshows on paintings and palettes continues this week with a focus on portraits, and the palettes and studio gear of the artist's who make paint them.

The subjects and scale of the portraits are quite diverse, ranging from a large format image of President Bill Clinton by Chuck Close to a small oil on panel Labrador Retriever with a tennis ball in his mouth by Kimberly Merrill. After each portrait painting I have posted either an image of the artist's palette, palette table, or their studio setup.

There are also two short videos that show artists Chuck Close and Don Bachardy in their studios.

I want to mention that this series of blogs was partly inspired by artist/author Joe Fig, whose excellent book
"Inside the Painter's Studio" is crammed with revealing photos and details about the tools of artists.
