As Officer Larvelle Jones in the Police Academy films, Michael Winslow made a name for himself with thousands of impeccable sound effects. There is no question the comedian is multi-talented, but he never sounded quite as good as Bernhoft. The multi-instrumental singer/songwriter is arguably the biggest thing to hit Norway since fjords, and is currently making quite the impression in the states. The musician is touring on his own, and hitting the festival circuit. He was a standout at this year's SXSW (how many other artists beatbox and loop live on stage?), and will hit this year's Bonnaroo Music Festival.
Last week, the classical-trained artist stopped by the Music Conservatory of Westchester to film an edition of A-Sides Music. There, he performed "C'mon Talk," whose video has netted over five million views on YouTube, and discussed his unique musical stylings which fits into just about every genre. Watch. Listen. Love.

Whereas Bernhoft is a one-man band, Las Supper is a supergroup with a lot of moving parts including NYC's music masters Lifted Crew. The band features Show Tyme on lead vocals, Nicky Cake on lead guitar and vocals, Erin "Flux" Boyd on vocals, Yvette "Yvil" Rovira on vocals, Joel "MEGA" Gonzalez on trumpet and percussion, Joey "Bagadeez" Lambert on drums, Henry "White" Jeria on keys, and Ben "Miami" Geis on bass. Oh, and did I mention hip-hop legend Big Daddy Kane is in the band? Insert jaw drops now. Las Supper blends rap, R&B, and Motown soul together, and the result is a forward-thinking retro-cool sound. The name of the band's debut Back to the Futuresort-of captures that notion. Donny Hathaway would be proud. Following their first gig, the genre-bending group performed "I Believe in Love Again" and sat down for a quick chat about their newfound sound. Watch it below, and thank me tomorrow.

Jon Chattman's "A-Sides Music" series usually features artists (established or not) from all genres performing a track, and discussing what it means to them. This informal series focuses on the artist making art in a low-threatening, extremely informal (sometimes humorous) way. No bells, no whistles -- just the music performed in a random, low-key setting followed by an unrehearsed chat.
