Are You There God? It's Me Mormon: Live (on Tape) From the Tony Red Carpet

Priscilla cross dressers used it like a catwalk. Jon Cryer ran down it, I'm sure, to avoid more dopey Charlie Sheen questions. And Alec Baldwin made his way on it by dodging questions of a possible New York mayoral run. It was the red carpet of the 65th Annual Tony Awards, and aside from a few stars who avoided reporters like Anthony Weiner after another Twitter bender, it was almost as exciting as the past Broadway season itself.

Yep, the economy may still be in the crapper, but Broadway is enjoying a fruitful year thanks to celebrated shows like The Book of Mormon, The Normal Heart, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and even the much talked about Spider-Man, which continues to make money no matter who gets hurt.

Hours before Neil Patrick Harris killed emcee duties, and the Tony Gods smiled on Mormon, stars of the Broadway stage and beyond fielded questions, expressed excitement, and celebrated the Great White Way in style (literally - the gift suite was sponsored by Audemars Piguet). The opening number from the 65th Tony Awards show sung by Neil Patrick Harris caused me to blow Diet Coke through my nose. ",,, it's not just for Gays anymore ..." is just too damn funny! As a gay man, I must say the show got even better after that. Reminded me of a saying written on the men's room world at the Met Opera - "If God didn't want there to be Opera, he wouldn't have invented gay people!"
