Jay Jay Burridge Brings Dinosaurs to Life With a Little Foam and Tape

As a child growing up, one of my many aspirations in life was to become the foremost dinosaur archeologist in the world. I could picture myself traveling the globe discovering only the rarest of dino-creatures. I'd even have one named in my honor: the Joyosaurus. But growing in urban Los Angeles, there wasn't much room for fossil digging, so I settled for digging up worms. And every once in a while I'd venture over to the La Brea Tar Pits and stare into the black, bubbling goo wondering what secrets were hidden below its sticky surface waiting to be discovered.

To this day, I still get excited when I hear about a new dinosaur being unearthed somewhere in the world. So it's no surprise that I was thrilled to hear that Jay Jay Burridge was coming to Los Angeles for his first solo show on dinosaurs.

For six weeks in a makeshift studio in Santa Monica he and his assistants have been busy creating a dino-gasmic dream come true. With only lightweight military grade foam, m3 tape, and a set of extremely sharp kitchen knives given to him by Jamie Oliver used for carving, Jay Jay has made fantasy into a functioning reality.

Jay Jay's show opening at the Lazarides Gallery in Beverly Hills this Thursday, August 12th, entitled, When Superstars Ruled the World, marks his first art show as well as the final show in the Lazarides pop-up roster. This is a definite "can't miss" for dino-lovers, industrial geeks, and families alike.
