Cuando dijeron "¡play ball!" por primera vez este año en Grandes Ligas, los Phillies eran favoritos lógicos de la mayoría de los pronosticadores, para ganar hasta la Serie Mundial.
Recuerdo haber leído en el "New York Times" por aquellos días...: "La rotación de Philadelphia parece invencible, el bullpén sólido, y su orden el bate una artillería como para amedrentar a cualquier lanzador".
Pero todo ha cambiado. Ya los Phillies, víctima de docenas de lesionados, no son favoritos.
Por eso mi amigo Jimmy Shapiro, de Sports Publicist, Bovada, me decía ayer...:
"Nosotros llevamos permanentemente el pulso de la temporada. Es un trabajo de día tras día, y puedo decirte que ahora, cuando estamos mucho más cerca del Juego de Estrellas que de la inaugurción, los Rangers son número uno en posibilidades de ganar la Serie Mundial, con registro de cinco a uno. Los siguen los Yankees, pero muy lejos, 17 a uno, empatados con los Rays, 17 a uno. Y entonces, en cuarto lugar, es cuando aparecen los Phillies, junto con los Dodgers, 12-uno cada equipo.
El trabajo de Shapiro y su gente, que es minucioso y profundo, agrega...: Tigres 14-uno, Angelinos 15-uno, Cardenales 15-uno, Marlins 15-uno, Rojos 15-uno, Nationals 15-uno, Bravos 18-uno, Medias Rojas 18-uno, Gigantes 20-uno, Blue Jays 20-uno, Medias Blancas 25-uno, Mets 35-uno, Indios 40-uno, Orioles 50-uno, Diamondbacks 50-uno, Cerveceros 65-uno, Piratas 75-uno, Rockies 100-uno, Atléticos 150-uno, Marineros 250-uno, Astros 250-uno, Royals 250-uno, Twins 500-uno, Padres 500-uno y Cachorros 500-uno.
Es decir, si se apuesta hoy en Las Vegas o en otro sitio de apuestas legales, a que los Cachorros ganarían la Serie Mundial 2012, por cada dólar expuesto se ganarían 500. Pero, si se prefieren a los Rangers, entonces solamente pagarían cinco dólares por cada uno apostado, o 17 por cada dos si se escogen los Yankees.
Pero falta más de la mitad de la campaña, por lo que pueden surgir otros cambios, que ni siquiera Shapiro, podría anunciar.

Yo que les digo... ** LA PEOR gente de prensa y de relaciones públicas de las Grandes Ligas es la de los Marlins. Entre muchos otros abandonos e imbecilidades, en toda esta alegre y vibrante ciudad floridiana, nada se ve de la existencia del equipo, el cual, por cierto, es un buen equipo... ** LOS Angelinos, ya a tres juegos de los líderes de la División, los Rangers, van como vaya Albert Pujols. Por eso y para eso lo firmaron como agente libre para esta campaña y nueve más, por 240 millones de dólares. El dominicano, finalmente se ha adaptado al oeste... Digo yo, ¿no?...
