Press Conference, Washington, D.C. 2017

President Cruz what do you think of this tactic by the Democrats?

I think it's outrageous to threaten the economy of the country and the world over this single issue. It was voted on many times. They lost. Get over it.

But something like 80% of the country wants background checks. Aren't you thwarting the will of the majority by refusing to enact this law?

Majority rule is so 60's. We believe in minority rule.

Well now that you have finally repealed Obamacare, what happens to the 40 million uninsured and those blocked from coverage for pre-existing conditions?

The free market will take care of it like it always has.

Well as it is, the poor go to emergency care, and in effect the taxpayers pay for their medical care?

See, the free market works.

Aren't you worried what effect this shut down will have upon the economy, and isn't it worth it to stop the pain by allowing background checks on gun sales?

I don't mind the shutdown. Stopping food stamps is a good thing. It encourages people to get off their butts and find work.

What about businesses?

I like that there is less regulation. Government should stay out of our private lives except for women's vaginas.

Democrats are petitioning for the recall of all Republicans who voted against gun control, just like the Republicans did in Colorado for those who voted for it. What do you think of that?

That's nonsense. People who vote for gun control are violating the Constitution. People who vote against it are upholding it. They are the real patriots.

Mr. President you quoted Dr. Seuss in your stirring message to the Senate. Your Vice-President, Michelle Bachman, in describing your administration quoted the noted philosopher Woody Allen from his respected work Bananas, in which the new president is portrayed as saying: "From now on citizens shall wear their underwear on the outside and speak only Polish".

Do you subscribe to that political philosophy?

Well you know, sometimes Michelle speaks metaphorically. I do believe that we have to tell the people what's right for them, and only a small number of us know what that is.

If there were two words that described what your party cares most about, what would those two words be?

Rich people.

Thank you Mr. President
