The Orange County Museum of Art recently honored acclaimed filmmaker and visual artist David Lynch at its annual Art of Dining event. Approximately 275 guests from Orange County and Los Angeles attended the black-tie gala at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach. The museum, the county's premier visual arts venue, is dedicated to enriching lives through modern and contemporary art. The gala raised funds to support its exhibitions and free school programs which serve more than 6,000 students each year.

The evening's festivities kicked off with cocktails followed by a five-course meal from Executive Chef Josef Lageder. OCMA director and CEO Dennis Szakacs introduced David Lynch with a short film presentation of the maverick at work in his art studio. Lynch was born in Missoula, Montana. He became interested in painting and drawing at an early age and went on to study painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Lynch went into filmmaking to make his paintings move. His first feature film, Eraserhead, became a cult favorite. His other works include The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Dune, Mulholland Drive and the popular TV series Twin Peaks. In addition, he is the founder and chairman of the David Lynch Foundation which funds the implementation of stress-reducing modalities such as Transcendental Meditation for at-risk populations such as inner-city students and veterans. Celebrities at the gala in support of the visionary included Madchen Amick, Lara Flynn Boyle, Ray Wise and Hilary Duff.
