The two Senators from Massachusetts who started a filibuster movement to stop Alito against overwhelming Republican odds remind me of the brave souls in South Texas who were surrounded and outnumbered by Mexican soldiers but who fought valiantly to the bitter end. While their heroism did not earn them victory it did inspire the rallying cry "Remember the Alamo". Within months Texas was victorious, as many more joined the legendary heroics of those who died there.

Now it is time to shout out, "Remember the Alito" which I think will function as a psychological battle cry to rally opponents of George W. Bush and his Administration which for five years has alienated at least half of America in multiple ways - from blurring the boundaries between church and state to turning its back on everything from Katrina victims to dead and dying soldiers in Iraq. And it's hard not to mention health care and education failures, melting polar ice caps, and excruciating deficits.

Until this moment we have had a dumb media replete with Administration apologists, mixed with a huge percentage of dormant Democrats. Now this deadly trend may be reversed once and for all by the band of brave Senators who are gaining support as they oppose Judge Alito's nomination. Even if they lose this battle, their brave fight will give psychological muscle to others to join in their struggle to stop our destructive leaders, spurred on by the new battle cry, "Remember the Alito".
