Where Have I Been?!

As I sit at my desk thinking of what to write about, I am having a self debate on letting you all know what I have been up to the past few months or letting you know where I am headed. The past two months have a lot to do with where I am heading, so I guess I'll let you know where I've been first.

As I sit at my desk thinking of what to write about, I am having a self debate on letting you all know what I have been up to the past few months or letting you know where I am headed. The past two months have a lot to do with where I am heading, so I guess I'll let you know where I've been first.

Since I have last blogged, I helped organize, plan, and participated in the Chick-fil-A "protest" that was held in Laguna Hills, CA, on July 26, 2012. A small group of about six of us from Youth Empowered to Act (YETA) planned this "protest," within 3 days, after we were asked what we do when these such issues arise. For those of you who don't know by now, Dan Cathy, CEO of Chick-fil-A, publicly declared his stance on gay marriage and made it known that the company donated millions of dollars to anti-lgbt groups. The goal of our "protest" was to raise consumer awareness and let them know where there money is going. I proudly wore that chicken suit and carried my Kermit sign for 10 hours.

Soon after the "protest," my life of activism and YETA meetings came to a screeching halt. On August 12, my grandma committed suicide. At the time, I felt like I need to work on myself emotionally, so I took these few months off of activism, but will be getting back into the swing of things rather quickly.

Other random updates: I am still living with my grandparents, and will not be moving to Tennessee to live with my mother. I now have a wonderful and supportive girlfriend whom I love very much. I will be turning 21 on October 2. I am still in search of a job.

Now that you are all caught up on what has happened in the past few months, this is where I am headed. I have received several messages via email, facebook, and tumblr regarding ways that students can make a difference in schools, which is exactly what YETA is working on! My goal in the near future is that we can share what we are working on here with organizations across the nation.

For now, we are working on Spirit Day 2012 and making it as big as we can. I could use your help getting the word out!

I am terribly sorry that this post was all over the place, but I felt you needed to know why I have been M.I.A for two months. I will be back, I promise.
