Some travelers savor every opportunity to try all manner of foreign cuisine on their adventures, no matter how unusual or outside their everyday experience the dish may be. Others cling to the universal choices of worldwide fast food chains like a lifeline to the familiar.

I'm in the former group, and admittedly it's been a long journey from my childhood when all my parents could get me to eat were hamburgers and spaghetti. "Try it, you'll like it!" my father used to say. In my adulthood the tables have turned and it'll be a cold day in hell before either of my parents try any of the dishes I experienced on the 30 Postcards food tour of Manila.
