Concerned Citizens Want Congress to Flush the TPP

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement is currently being negotiated by the United States and eleven other countries. Masked as a trade deal, the agreement has been negotiated under the supervision of hundreds of unelected corporate "trade advisers," while the text has been hidden from members of Congress, the press, and the public.

What has been learned about the TPP has come through leaked texts and is incredibly alarming. If implemented, the TPP would affect worker's rights and wages, environmental regulations, sovereignty of nations and democratic rule of law, internet freedom and online creativity, food safety and agriculture, healthcare and financial regulation, and much more. It would also give more power to corporations, including the ability for companies to sue for taxpayer compensation if any domestic law diminished the company's expected future profits.

The TPP is being referred to as "NAFTA on steroids," and concerned citizens all over the nation are organizing to stop this from being fast-tracked. Organizations such as Backbone Campaign, Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch, Fair Trade Coalition in Oregon and Washington, Popular Resistance and many others have joined together to form FlushTheTPP.org, an action campaign aimed at stopping the Trans-Pacific Partnership. These organizations are also launching a coordinated day of action Tuesday, November 12 with light projections planned in Dallas, Spokane, Detroit, Olympia, Baltimore, DC, Seattle and other cities. These coordinated citizen's actions will coincide with ongoing negotiations taking place in Salt Lake City from the 12th - 24th and with a release by Representatives Rosa DeLauro and George Miller detailing the opposition to "Fast Track" among congress.
