6 Reasons Why Your Life Is a Pretty Sweet Adventure

Discover your pleasure principle and throw a party there like you're a 5-year-old with no inhibitions at all. Just greet your favorite things with the same enthusiasm and appreciation as your dog greets you when you come home after a long day of having been away.

So often we forget that every day of our lives is an invitation to celebrate. We are children of this world, and life is our personal playground. We decide whether we will crawl, climb, leap, spin in circles, sit on the sidelines pouting as others are having all of the fun or create our own games that inspire others to play. Below are six reminders of why you should always join in on the adventure...

#1 No Matter What Kind of Night You Had, Morning Always Follows.

The sun peaking just above the horizon, the fresh layer of dew on the grass, the smell of coffee brewing and the sound of your feet hitting the cold floor are always reminders that a brand new day has been gifted to you. Unwrap your gift and be grateful for it, too.

#2 The Sound of Your Breath is a Call to Achieve the Highest Expression of Yourself.

Each of us are longing for the ultimate way to achieve the highest, purest expressions of ourselves. When one figures out the best outlet to achieve that expression, it is the epitome of highness and fulfillment. Perhaps it is through the creation of a song, through a form of movement or an interpretation of art. Perhaps it is in the invention of something, the molding of something or the execution of something. Perhaps it is being a clown.

Writing is the essence of my highest expression. I settle into my chair, and my computer becomes my sanctuary. I delve into this lovely zone, and nothing -- not the fear, the lack, the echoes of my critics, nor the desire to hold back -- can touch me, for I am soaring. Regardless of what that highest expression is for you, the great thing about life is this: If you are still breathing, the discovery of such is always possible. In fact, the sound of your breath is actually a call to explore, to dig for and to develop whatever "that" is. What ever made you think that the world does not care if you leave your thumbprint on its landscape? It's time to break ground.

#3 You Cannot Control Everything, But You Have Total Control Over Your Reaction to Everything.

You cannot control if the person next to you whimpers, scoffs, throws punches in the air or jumps up and down like a 2-year-old in the throes of a tantrum. If they choose to step into the mouth of anger's deepest, darkest cave, no one is forcing you to follow them in there.

What they do with their body, their time and their words is their business, and they will have to live out the repercussions of their every decision. However, you have one hundred percent control and responsibility over your reaction to absolutely everything. How powerful is that?

#4 Love Always Trumps Fear With a Mighty, Unconquerable Fist.

Love swallows fear like a giant whale swallowing a lowly minnow. Every time. Fear becomes powerless when met with the burning, unwavering face of love. When love refuses to blink, fear must dissipate. It cannot even gaze upon it for long without surely turning to ash. So, don't worry when the shadow of fear attempts to darken your door. Pay it no regard, in fact. All you have to do is find the love that exists within you, and allow it burst through you and out of you like a mighty volcanic eruption.

#5 The Seasons Are Constantly Changing. If You Don't Like the One You're In, it is Sure to Eventually End.

If you don't like the season of life you're in, do not rest in weariness; It is guaranteed to pass eventually. Even the longest drought in history did not last forever. Neither will a broken heart. Sufferers of the Great Depression likely feared it would never reach its expiration date, yet it did. Even if you find yourself in the most frightening monsoon storm imaginable, if you live through it, your feet will once again stand on dry land. Whatever "it" is, it is going to pass, and the earth's ever-changing seasons are comforting reminders of that.

#6 Life Offers an Open Invitation to Roll Around in Celebration And Joy.

Joy is the gateway to healing. If you want to heal, roll around in pleasure and celebration. Play like a kindergartner who has just discovered the monkey bars. Throw your head back and laugh from the belly of your being, allowing it to burst freely from the deepest part of you. Feast your eyes on a beautiful sight. Surely there is something that fills you with nothing but absolute, unabashed delight. For example, I love the slimy feel of spaghetti noodles on my lips. I love the smell of incense burning. I love the squeak my dachshund, Lucy, makes when she yawns. I love the feel of her paw on my face. I love the sound of popcorn popping, and I love the smell of it even more. What is it that you love?

Discover your pleasure principle and throw a party there like you're a 5-year-old with no inhibitions at all. Just greet your favorite things with the same enthusiasm and appreciation as your dog greets you when you come home after a long day of having been away. Roll around in joy and celebration like a man on fire rolls around in the dirt.
