Why I'm Standing Up for Change

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

2008 is my chance to make a difference and cast my vote for the next President of the United States, Barack Obama. It's time for Americans to stand up for CHANGE. As an artist, I am thrilled and excited to join Quincy Jones, Natalie Cole, Norman Lear, Patti Austin, Take 6, Ledisi, Sergio Mendes and Monica Mancini at the Vibrato in Los Angeles on Monday, September 15, 2008 to raise money for the Obama Victory Fund.

I've never felt so passionate about standing up and making a difference. This is my chance to do something for my country. The country that I love. It is our time and Barack Obama is the candidate who can stand up and speak for everyone, all Americans. So, please come out, support him and join us.

You knock 'em dead, Lalah! You've got one of the greatest voices I've ever heard, and it's great to see you're behind Obama. As I've said many times, I think he'll be the greatest president of our lifetime. I pray that this event, and many more like it, will help put this man in the white house.

Truthfully, I have no idea who you are. But good for you.
Welcome to the battle.

Lalah Hathaway is an amazing singer whose father is the late, great Donny Hathaway.
Look them both up on iTunes, it will be well worth your time. Amazing music!
And yes, it is our time Lalah, for all Americans.
Go Obama!!!!

ok, so what i want all of you to examine is what obama is bringing to the table. what is he promising to do for the poor blacks of this country? how does he promise to help our brothers and sisters gain all that they have not gained yet? for your vote, why not demand that he put reparations for our people on the table? that before his first four years are out that all the descendants of african americans will be given permanent homes that will never leave their families, they will have access to health care permanently, post secondary schooling for all students who can pass the standard tests for college entry, free of charge; a monetary settlement to the heads of all descendant slave families; removal from the constitution (if still there) that blacks are three fifths of a human. that is what my vote is worth, nothing more, nothing less. obama must be held to the same standards as all candidates wanting our votes, he must tell us what we get in return, especially african americans. YOU DON'T EVER GIVE UP YOUR VOTE FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! DEMAND THAT THIS MAN LAY OUT HIS PLANS FOR US AND FOR OUR PEOPLE, FOR THOSE OF US WHO MAY NOT VOTE, DON'T LET HIM ESCAPE WITHOUT DOING THIS!

Tell that to John McCain who said on The View that he would appoint Supreme Court Justices to strickly follow constitutional law as it was written hundreds of years ago. If that happens then you will have more things to worry about than whether or not Obama gives you money, a house and what ever else you are asking for. Would you rather return to slavery or have a better chance in this country with Obama. If not, then get your passport ready.

Get real!

Yeah, I agree. I've argued the same point before, but he has to get there first. And the way this country is he won't make it on a platform of helping out black youth. I don't care how upset and defensive whites get, they will turn on Obama faster than the rinse cycle in a washing machine.

My take.
Politics is tough. And I have seen the promises of MANY politicians go by the boards. That is life.
But McCain promises nothing. Not for you. Not for me. With Obama, we might have a chance.

You ask for something for Black people. I do not know. I do know he promises something for everyone. For me, I believe we have a better chance for a better economy, and that works for everyone. He promises better healthcare, a better chance at higher education. He offers a plan for better education for all children.

McCain says nothing on any of these issues.

Is that good enough? Each must answer that for themselves.

Are American-born Japanese citizens also entitled to reparations? How about American Indians, or innocent Muslims being detained indefinitely at Guantanamo? What have you personally done, or been deprived of from the slavery laws of the 18th and 19th centuries, that entitle you to a free ride at tax payers expense in the 21st?
