Sofia and Kate Make Back to School Shopping Fun

Just for the record, I'm not one of those parents that wishes summer was longer (sorry kids, you know I love you). Yes, I admit I am in the other camp--where I am counting the days until back to school. Maybe it's because I can only come up with so many camps, activities and creative snacks--all I know is that by the end of summer, I feel like I've done it all. So, seeing as it is that back to school time of year once again, I found 5 terrific reasons to make the process more exciting.

Top 5 Reasons to Love Back to School:

Reason #1. Back to School Shopping: This year I tried an exciting and less chaotic way to shop for back to school stuff--it's called online shopping. It's so much easier and I found an amazing company called VIVAIO DAYS (which means 'nursery days' in Italian) where every purchase made pays for a day of school for an underprivileged child. How cool is that? The colorful lunch box sets are super cute and come with a sports bottle and snack containers. The best part is that all the products are eco-safe, and with every $20 you spend, you are giving a day of education to an underprivileged child. Love it!

Reason #2. Earlier Bed Time: I don't know about you but I like to go to bed by 10pm. I call it "energy management" (translation: I get tired and need to recharge for the next day). The thought of backing up the kids bedtime in preparation for back to school gets me excited--probably more than it should. I guess it's the sleepovers that can wear you down by the end of summer. Or, maybe it's that I'm getting older, but as the saying goes early to bed, early to rise makes a man (woman too) healthy, wealthy and wise. Which brings us to the third reason to love back to school.

Reason #3. Fewer Take Your Kids to Work Days: Whether you go to an office or work from home, trying to work with the kids around is IMPOSSIBLE. Did I use the word impossible? Good. At first it seems fun to show your kids off or have them around to see all the things you do during the day, however being asked questions 10 times an hour can be, shall I say, distracting? In fact, I wrote this whole blog then my daughter asked for something and I forgot to save the draft so here I am again rewriting it. Maybe this should be number one on my list of why we love back to school.

Reason #4. No More Reruns: Funny thing about back to school being in the fall--it lines up perfectly with the new fall season. Translation: No more reruns! Now you get all new espisodes and don't have to watch reruns of Modern Family, The Middle, The Goldbergs and fingers crossed, another season of The Bachelor or Bachelorette. Yes, a guilty pleasure of mine and a great escape from anything having to do with parenting. Which helps circle back to the second reason to love back to school--earlier bedtime. Just in case any of the previously mentioned shows may not fit the 8pm time slot;)

Reason #5. Less Social Media: Whether it's Instagram, Snapchat, Musical.ly, Facebook, Twitter or any of the other apps out there, kids are spending way too much time using social media. Not that my kids have any of those (note to self: delete all apps from my phone). I'm just saying that by noon my cell phone goes dead. I still think they teach a variety of subjects you can do without electronics at school, don't they? Now that's a really good reason to go back to school, isn't it?
