Your attempt to reach across the aisle these past two years in the face of ongoing contempt and ridicule from the Republican Party has made you seem weak and foolish.
It cost you a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives this past November, and it will cost you far more in 2012 if you persist in trying to meet the opposition party halfway.

No way, when Democrats are to the right of the political middle, while the Republicans are out behind the building on the street to the right of the right field parking lot. I mean, they aren't even VISIBLE from the ballpark.
So, meeting Republicans "halfway" still means leaving the ballpark.
And that makes it kind of hard to play ball, you know?
What about Bradley Manning? I don't have a lot of money, but I made a conscious decision to donate to Bradley today. Julian has gotten himself in the spot and will all likelyhood will not be left in vain. I cannot say the same about Bradley, can you? Would you consider donation to him as well?
