Why You Should Quit Your Day Job and Go Do Your Thing

Whatever you do, don't keep doing something you hate. The mindset inside of that is part of the cause of disease; rotting away inside of your gut like a rusty wheel. Clear that shit out and make room for the joy. Shine your light on us. We can handle it.

Who cares if you're an expert at what you do if you don't love it? You're really good at your day job, like you're the best. But you hate it. You keep your day job because you're good at it, it pulls in a good living, and people tell you you're great. But you still hate it. You have a thing that you love to do. You know it's your thing. You feel it.

So why aren't you doing your thing?

The voice says you can't follow that lead, the lead of your heart. The voice says you've worked too hard to get where you're at and changing your mind at this stage of the game would be stupid. The voice is so loud, convincing. It has a point.

I mean, really, what would happen if you decided to drop it all and do your thing? What's the worst that could happen? I imagine being homeless -- that's my worst thing. Ridiculous, but there it is.

There's this burning flame of desire heating up somewhere between your heart and your belly button. Awake to the spiritual laws of The Universe, you hear the call.

You need to do this thing you love.

You love this thing more than anything you've ever done. In brave moments as you free those sizzling, red-orange-singed ideas from your lips, you're healed. The Feng Shui saves your soul. So why aren't you doing your thing?

You're afraid, that's why.

You're gasping for breath in a little a box you locked yourself up in; dwelling in the corner, staring at walls smeared black with rules and lies of should and supposed to. Decades of wet blankets muffle the shrieking while your spirit burns.

Realize now; all it would take to set yourself free is doing your thing.

We don't want to sweep up your ashes filled with the sparkling shreds of dreams that would have saved the world. We want to hear your story. We want to hear/see/feel your thing. We want your radiant, raging fire to light a spark inside of us.

We want to be saved.

So go do your thing. In any form, in any small steps, in any way you can. And if you are really brave, jump off the cliff and leave your expert status behind to soar into the thing you love more than yourself. That's the thing that will take you to places you've only dreamed. That's the adventure that awaits your courageous soul.

"Are you insane?" says the voice. Who let her in again? "No, really, are you fuc*&% insane? Do you really think you can leave all the responsibilities, the duties, the obligations you have? That you made for yourself? You think you can just go do that thing you love and not leave a wake of destruction behind you?"

Yes, yes I can.

Here's why. Life's short people. You know this. We're meant to experience illegal amounts of happiness here on earth, not as much suffering as we can handle. We're meant to take all of it, feel all of it, do all of it, live in all of it...including the exceptionally rapturous stuff.

You must now give yourself permission to go do your thing.

Give yourself permission to feel everything, including the bliss. It's okay, shout it to the sky, or to a BFF over a beer. Write it down in black ink. Make a plan. Share it. You can always change your mind.

While you're at it, change your mind again. And back again. Who cares? This is your life. You make the rules. Take what you know and what you love and make a hybrid passion project out of the marriage of those two things. Be creative. Find coaches. Find cheerleaders.

Whatever you do, don't keep doing something you hate. The mindset inside of that is part of the cause of disease; rotting away inside of your gut like a rusty wheel. Clear that shit out and make room for the joy. Shine your light on us. We can handle it.

Wake up. Be brave. Heal your shit. Do what you love.

Please, go do your thing.
