Spoiler Alert: Do not read on if you have not yet seen Season 3, Episode 1 of Fox's "New Girl," titled "All In."
Hallelujah, the gang is back! And lucky for us, "New Girl" is not one of those shows that picks up three years after they left off. Season 3 finds Jess and Nick riding up, up and away from Cece's wedding hall, giddy and elated.
The theme of tonight's episode, as its title suggests, is "All in." As in, these two are so into each other, they are willing to do everything: Abandon reason! Let their inhibitions run wild! They are truly in it to win it. This is why, after dozing off in the car, Nick wakes up to find Jess has driven them past the border. They are in Mexico!
Back in the loft, Schmidt is in bad shape. He's in love with two women -- Cece and Elizabeth -- and can't make up his mind who to choose. He needs Nick, his best friend, but he's nowhere to be found. Winston is a poor man's Nick and really can't be bothered because he's got his own, literal, puzzle to solve. And so Schmidt lies to both ladies and for the next few days, juggles them both.
In Mexico, Jess and Nick have the time of their lives looking like extras from "Cast Away." But when Paradise Nick suggests they kick it up a notch and reside in a local resort, or at least drink leftover cocktails, he gets caught by security, tased and taken away.
In a desperate move, Jess drives back to L.A. to enlist the help of Schmidt and Winston, who by that point are about to tear each other's heads off (Schmidt made Cece believe that Winston had slept with Elizabeth and had tried to get a pair of Cece's panties to sew onto his. Winston, understandably, was less than pleased). The three of them drive back down with some money and Nick's passport, only to discover "jail" is resort jail, as in a fancy suite where Nick spent his time watching "Ugly Betty."
As they make their way back to the apartment -- not that Nick didn't try his best to get them to stay south of the border, all but shredding his passport and claiming their relationship won't work in the real world -- there's a sense of something new in the air. Schmidt doesn't like it, Winston seems pretty indifferent, but our heroine and her court jester are way too into it to stop now.
"New Girl" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
