Over the past six months, I have shared wedding news with quite a few friends and clients. As I listened to each bride rattle off the list of details to be attended to in order to have a fabulous event, I felt strangely unsettled. Something keenly important was missing from the list: amid all that lace, where was the bride's sacred space?

The entire time the bride is preparing for the big day, she needs to replenish her spirit and the place to do that is a private sacred space or spiritual sanctuary (altar) of her own design. The purpose of this special space is to embrace harmony, peace and love, The bride should visit it often during her planning, right up to the night before the wedding. It is here where she will escape to calm her nerves and strengthen her spirit. Most of all, it's where she should go to restore and maintain harmony among the chaos of excitement. It's where she will remember the essence of the union she will be entering into, and avoid the arguments and bridal party stress that may come with the day.

Most of all, she can remember herself as the little girl, the teenager and the career woman. She can reflect on sweet memories of growing up, while reveling on the new ones that brought her to this very moment. She can write what she is feeling in her journal as she experiences the final moments before she walks down the aisle to marry her special love.

Whether you are reflecting on the past or looking to the future, it is important to take a moment to stop and enjoy the journey before the destination catches up with you. And that can be made possible with a little help from your bridal sacred space. Below are some tips on putting one together for your big day.

•Use the corner of your dresser, or a small table as the "space."
•Gather a small scarf, a votive candle of your chosen color and candle holder, a vase to fill with flowers, and any token to remind you of your relationship.
•A photo of the two of you in a pretty frame will illuminate the space and strengthen the power of your positive intention.
•Perhaps a keepsake or souvenir special to your heart.

Light the candle each time you visit your sacred space to ignite your spirit and remind you of your inner light and the meaning of this lifetime event. Sit in a nearby chair and relax. Spend as much time as you need to as a promise to yourself. Feel free to make the space your own and remember to go to it often!
